The moon illuminated the streets while the rain fell and hit the concrete brutally. The amount of puddles outside increased as the rain showed no signs in halting. The streets were lifeless, people were cooped up inside their homes as the weather worsened.
Inside, the lights were radiant and the warmth was pleasantly welcoming.
Sitting on the couch with blankets doubled up around her, her eyes kept on the TV. The sound of the rain only faint by now.
[Y/N] moved around and brought the covers closer to her, feeling shivers trickle down the length of her spine when the newly formed warmth crept under her skin. An involuntary smile broke out onto her face.
Three knocks at the door interrupted [Y/N]'s moment of my contentment. She let out a sigh of exasperation, the covers flew off of her body and she climbed to he feet. The feeling of the sharp, cool air hit her body instantly and she had to force herself towards the door before she turned back and clambered back under the covers again.
Once the door was open, the cold invited itself in and settled in all corners of the house.
Justin stood in front of her. His breath left his mouth visibly, puffs of air swirled in between them both. His chest heaved up and down rapidly and his body shook and quivered, [Y/N]'s eyes scanned his appearance. His hair fell in of his face, completely wet. The rain held it together in clumps and it waved in front of his eyes. The shirt he wore was damp and crinkled, leaning towards the left, suggesting he'd quickly thrown it over his head and not bothered to adjust it.
"Run away with me." Water dropped onto his bottom lip, he didn't seem to notice; he didn't react. His breath was trembling.
"Wh-what?" [Y/N]'s head shook involuntarily in confusion, her eyebrows furrowed deeply as she took in his state.
In that moment, seeing him and hearing his voice after so long, she felt her heart strings tug. He shakily took his hand and pressed it against the door frame to support himself, his other hand ran through the length of his hair, tugging on the end of it.
"You, me, let's go, let's leave." The words left his mouth so quickly, she wasn't sure she even understood what he'd said. "Anywhere you want, [Y/N], I don't care. Just please, leave with me." His eyes drowned in tears that threatened to fall, specks of water already covered his cheeks, so she wouldn't have been able to tell if they were tears or just the rain. "What do you say?"
"Justin, what are you talking about? Are you drunk?" She inspected his unusual behaviour, her eyes scanned his face.
"I'm more sober than I've ever been in my life, and I know that this is what I want. I want you. I want to be with you, forever." His expression seemed to soften when he acknowledged her existence for the first time in a while. "But not here. Somewhere new, somewhere exciting, somewhere we can live." By now his voice was desperate, she felt herself being drawn in to him.
"Think about it. We could be waking up in a small, one room apartment in the middle of Paris, it'd be uncomfortable and it's probably stink, but we wouldn't care because we'd be together. Or we could catch the next plane to London and easily be pointed out as the tourists; you know we're useless with directions." He basked in the feeling of seeing her smile. "But we'd be together."
The smile didn't last long; it fell and her expression showed worry and confusion. "Then what's wrong with here? It's not much but we'd be together." She spoke with a mocking tone, more harshness behind it than she intended.
"[Y/N], this city is suffocating me. I want to get out there and do things, exciting things, and I want to live. But I want to do it all with you, no one else. I get that this is unexpected but I miss you, and I love you so, so much." A single tear trailed down his face. He looked more than desperate, he presented his words like he needed this.
She sighed, her fingers fumbled with the edge of the door, her nails scraping the wood. "Justin, this needs to be thought about. We can't just leave, what about money? Family and friends? You need to rest; you're not thinking straight." She tilted her head as she shot him a sympathetic look. His jaw clenched in the moonlight, and his eyes darkened. The rain still poured down, even harder than moments ago.
"What happened to being spontanuous? If we want to move to another city or country, we damn well can do. We're young and we're in love, we can take this chance. But I know that's not the problem, so if you don't want to do this, tell me now so I can do it alone." His words ran across her skin like knives. She shuddered at the thought of not being around him, the thought of him moving to a fresh, new city and meeting someone else. "I just..can't stay here."
"I-I don't know." She found her head shaking once more. Her eyes watered and glistened with tears, mirroring Justin's. He nodded his head, his hard stare never leaving face.
"Right." He reluctantly turned on his feet, pausing for only a moment as though deciding if he should stay or go. But he turned and walked heavily down the steps.
She observed him. She found herself calling out. "Justin, wait." She disowned the comfort and warmth of her house to run down the steps and join him in the pouring rain. She pulled him into her. "Okay." She nodded rapidly and looked up at him, a smile lit up his face instantly. Drops of water glided down each of their faces.
