MARTY disappeared. I imagined he was even there.

The other girls banged on the door. "Hey loser!" Michelle shouted through the wall. "We were just about to summon some ghosts! You're good at that, right?"

I opened the door. "What is your problem?" I asked furiously.

          "Excuse me?" Michelle challenged.

"What did I ever do to you? I experienced a traumatic event and you make fun of me! Why?"

"Look, it's just a joke. There's no reason to----"

I cut her off. "Shut up!" Michelle's "crowd" of three preps stared at me in disbelief. Suddenly, the three were thrown across the hallway and into three separate rooms, and the doors slammed.

"Don't talk to her like that!" a familiar male voice shouted. Michelle started choking. She was slammed against the wall so hard it cracked.

"Freak!" she yelled, catching her breath. I ran outside into the cod February night.

"Hello Ashley." the same voice whispered eerily. A spirit appeared.New tears streamed down my cheeks as the ghost became clear.

        "John?" I squeaked out.

"It's me, babe." A tear also appeared in his eye. He was just as he was on that fatal December night. There was blood stained on his warm black jacket he sometimes let me wear when it was cold.

"What are you doing here?" I shrieked.

"Are you not happy to see me?" he asked. "Because I can leave." He started to fade.

"No!" I said a little too loudly. "Of course I am." I tried to embrace him, to kiss him, but I went right through his translucent body.

"I'm so sorry, Ashley. I shouldn't have come. I just wanted to protect you."

"John, it's not your fault. You didn't---"

"No, Ashley. You don't get it. I have to go back. Marty and Christie will look for me. And they'll hurt you. They're stronger now. I'll always love you, Ashley Parks. Goodbye for now." He waved sadly, then disappeared. I broke down and wept.
