Catherine Blossom Stormhenge came from a long line of pureblooded Death Eaters, or the equivalent of that. But Catherine knew she was special the moment that she asked her mother why "Daddy wouldn't let her talk to the nice man". Catherine never believed in all that racist crap. She went to Hogwarts, got top grades, and was accepted into the Order of the Phoenix as a spy for Dumbledore. Then, in order to fulfill her spying duties, she became a death eater. All of the hate her family felt towards the black sheep disappeared.
Lord Voldemort took a liking to the young girl. A liking that some say was impossible. Lord Voldemort had feelings for Catherine.
Catherine, did not return these feelings, but instead decided to put her acting skills to the test. She was special, even amongst the death eaters, so she entered in a relationship with Voldemort.
Dumbledore knew of it, and was astounded at the lengths that she would go for him.
She disappeared, and only three months later did Catherine return to Dumbledore. Her eyes were red and swollen. She was begging.
"Please professor. I went to far! I need help! No one can know!" Her sentences were choppy and confusing to the Professor as Catherine sobbed on.
"Do come in dear Catherine. We would never shun you," the professor said kindly, wondering to himself what would put such a tough woman in this state.
"Professor, I have no where to stay now, they burned it down." Catherine sat down at the wooden table, pulling up her sleeve to reveal her dark mark. She ran her hand over the evil thing, and the ink seemed to seep into her skin itself.
"I've never seen anyone completely remove their dark mark. You truly are extraordinary, Catherine. And you are always welcome to stay here," the professor soothed to the sobbing mess.
"What if she turns out like him? What if I'm not there for her and he raises her? What if she's an orphan? What if she dies?" Catherine sobbed, more to herself than to Dumbledore.
"Who is she, Catherine? If any of this were to occur, I would personally see to it that she is cared for."
"You don't understand, Professor. If I'm not there for here, she will be shunned from society like a pile of dirt, and shunned from the dark side like a muggleborn. I have to stay alive, but I know I won't. I see it in the air, in my dreams. The prophecy is destined to come true."
"Catherine, for as long as I live, she will have a place at Hogwarts and with the light. The ministry may shun her, but I will always accept her in your memory. Just, please, tell me who she is so I may protect her."
"I can't say. You'll hate me."
"What ever you did was in the name of good. Catherine, you have not a spec of evil in your body."
"But I do professor. You see I'm pregnant. And it's his."
Many years later, Albus Dumbledore shot out if bed, his nightcap askew. He did not do as he said. He did not protect Catherine's little girl. That girl could never be protected, and he felt guilt that he did not honor Catherine's last wishes. He turned that girl into a spy for his side, not raising her like a father, not even looking for the girl who would forever look up at him with her green eyes and hit him with a pang of guilt. Who would sacrifice herself for anyone, even if she despised them. Who would defy the laws of physics just to save the world. No, Albus Dumbledore would never be able to keep Rumor Belladona Riddle safe.
Millions of miles away from the man who was full of grief and guilt, a young girl sat, wondering what it would be like to be loved.
And Albus Dumbledore felt a pang in his heart.
