R U M O R ||

Nightmares swirled in my head. Dreams bounced of my brain and reentered. Some of the dreams seemed real, some of them seemed like there was no way that they could be. It seemed like my brain was rewiring yet again, but this time of its own accord. Getting rid of the false thoughts, building me back up. My body was frozen during it. I was fully aware of my body, and that I was in it, but I couldn't move my limbs or my mouth or my eyes. I just lay there, prisoner in my own body, stuck with odd dreams. Some had a mysterious blond woman who looked oddly familiar and the sight of her made me forget that I was even stuck in my body. They called her Catherine Stomhenge.

"Catherine, Sirius has a new girlfriend!" a man who looked like Harry called out to the blond woman.

"I'm sure he does," she grumbled irritably, not looking up from her copy of Advanced Potion Making. "He's got a new one every other week.'

"No thanks to you breaking them up every other week!" a sandy haired man rolled his eyes. The ghost of a smile appeared on her face.

"True, Moony, true..." She muttered and looked up at the scarred man, a mischievous grin appearing on her face. "We better get cracking then! Let's see... Last Friday I didn't touch him and Ella, she dumped him on her own free will... The Friday before I broke him and Katherine up, I couldn't stand him dating someone with my name... So I get to break him and whats-her-slut up Friday!" The girl smiled wickedly as she came to her conclusion.

"Moony," the black haired man asked, clearly deep in thought.

"Yeah Prongs?" Moony replied.

"You ever think Padfoot gets together with girls just so he can watch Cat break them up?" Prongs mused. Moony laughed.

"I never thought of it that way," Moony admitted.

"Come, fair maidens, shalt thou want to help me!" Cat said, skipping away.

"Hey!"

"I don't know about Remey over here, but I am certainly not a fair maiden!"

"Shut it James!"

"I don't know Remus, you eat an awful lot of chocolate..."

"There's nothing wrong with a healthy obsession with chocolate!"

"Unhealthy, more like."

My eyes shot open for the fist time in four weeks. I had control of my body again. Both my hair and my skin were silky smooth. The bed I lay in was pure white, the curtains surrounding me were green. The sunlight did not dance on my bed, but I could tell from the way it shone through the curtains it was sunset, but still quite sunny. I sat up, with great difficulty. This action made the box springs creak, and whoever else in the room was alerted of my awakening.

The 'whoever else' was Madam Pomfrey, telling me that I was in the hospital wing. I looked around nervously, obviously forgetting that there were curtains around my bed.

"Ah, Rumor, you're awake," the matron says, pulling open the curtains and checking my pulse. I hastily glanced around, seeing that all the beds were empty, there were no longer petrified people in them.

"What happened? Why am I in here? Where did all the petrified people go? Was I petrified? Did I miss exams?" I asked feverishly.

"Dear, all the petrified people went home. Terms ended. As for you, no you weren't petrified. I'm not too sure what happened to you. Exams were canceled as well for the whole school," I matron said examining my eyes now.

"What about the Chamber?" I asked, worried that maybe someone else would have to succumb to the same horrors.

"Well, all I can tell you is that its no longer a threat. The Headmaster will explain the rest. Speaking of which, dear, you're all better, and the Headmaster wants to see you. The password is chocolate frogs," Madam Pomfrey said, handing me some clothes. "Bathroom is to the left." I left and changed. I had to keep a hand on thee white tile walls at all times, standing made me quite dizzy and my legs could hardly hold my weight. I put on my black jeans and my muggle hoodie. After I brushed my hair out, as it was now quite long, I hadn't cut it in two years, I started out of the bathroom and left the hospital wing for the headmasters office.

"Chocolate frog," I said, and my nervousness infiltrated my voice.

"Come in," Professor Dumbledore said.

"Professor! You're back!" I said sitting in the chair he gestured to.

"Yes, as are you," he smiled.

"Madam Pomfrey said that you would explain what happened. I can't remember anything after.... well after visiting Hermione, sir," I explained, looking desperately at my feet.

"Not to worry. You were possessed by your father, as was Ginny Weasley. He forced you to write your goodbye messages on the wall and then you had to go down into the chamber. You struggled, and so he contradicted it with torture, or so I believe and just between us, I am usually right. He took so much of your souls, you were nearly dead and he was nearly back. Harry, along with Ron and Professor Lockhart entered the chamber, looking for you and Ginny. Gilderoy attempted to wipe their memories, but the spell backfires, leaving him with no memory. Harry and Ron were separated, and Harry spoke with Tom to find all this out, before calling Fawks and the sword of Gryffindor to his aid. Tom called the Basilisk, Fawks blinded it, and Harry killed it, but not without getting impaled with a tooth. Fawks healed the wound and Harry destroyed the diary with the fang."

"And how long ago was that?" I asked quietly.

"A month, it's nearly August now," Dumbledore stood up as he spoke. "You are more than welcome to stay here for the remainder of time here at Hogwarts, Molly is going to Egypt with her family, I thought it best to give them some time alone." I nodded, thinking of my family. "Speaking of family, I thought it time to finally tell you about yours."

"Tom?" I asked, confused.

"No, Rumor," he said shaking his head, smiling. "Your mother."

"My mother?"

"Yes. She was a pureblood from a long line of extremist terrorists, much like the Death Eaters. The first Gryffindor in her family. Needless to say, they were not as happy about that as she was. Over her years here at the school, she became best friends with Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, James Potter, and Lily Potter nee Evans. She was well known throughout the school for breaking up Sirius's girlfriends on a weekly basis. After graduation, no one heard for her for several months. She appeared on my doorstep, absolutely desperate for help. She had joined the Death Eaters to anonymously relay messages to me and those against Voldemort in the war. She physically removed her dark mark and informed me of her rendezvous with Voldemort. She told me that she was pregnant with you, and I swore to protect you. Shortly after she gave birth to you, she was found horrifically murdered next to the orphanage your father grew up in, a simple note in her pocket, warning what would happen if they fooled with Voldemort's non existent emotions. he claimed to have loved your mother before she 'went rouge', but I do not believe this. Attraction, perhaps. She was always a very beautiful woman. If he had loved her, he would not have brutally killed her . She still seems to surprise me, thirteen years after her death. Yes, Catherine Stormhenge certainly was quite the character."

"Professor?" I asked quietly.

"Yes, Rumor?" Dumbledore replied his eyes twinkling.

"My last name... instead of Riddle, could it be Stormhenge?" I asked.

"Are you sure?" he asked. "Stomhenges are notoriously known for being dark, Riddle is an unknown name for Voldemort."

"I'm sure, sir."

"Well then, Miss Stormhenge. I'll inform the teachers of your discovery. The password to Gryffindor tower is Gillyweed. you may look like your father, Miss Stormhenge, but you certainly have the personality of your mother." My lips twitched at this and I smiled. maybe, maybe I wouldn't have to be bad anymore.

"Goodbye, Professor."

"Goodbye, Miss Rumor Stormhenge."
