Avery

"You know who's hot?"

Liam looked up from his iPhone. "Who?"

"Eugene Clark."

He made a disgusted face. I laughed and took sip of my tea. My favorite thing of the day was after school when Liam and met up at a coffee shop.

"Did you hear what happened during 7th period?" He asked.

I shook my head. "I left after 3rd. There was this test in 5th I need to avoid."

He frowned at me. "Well anyway, Parts of Mexico were bombed."

"Rebels?"

"That's what they're saying. It's only a matter of time before a war breaks loose."

I sighed. "I'm surprised the Peace has remained so long."

It all started when Liam and I were in about 2nd grade. We were outside playing recess and suddenly teachers and guards were rushing us inside. No one would tell us what was going on, but only said to stay inside and that our parents would pick us.

I remember my mother coming to get me and the look on her face. She was sad and almost frightened. I begged her to finally tell me what had happened.

"Some very bad people have been causing trouble recently. We're going to be okay though, baby. I promise."

We weren't okay, though. When we got home My aunt was waiting for us. Over 20 people had been killed in a bombing at the Royal Embassy.

One of them was my uncle.

That was the first major attack of the Rebels. They're unknown citizens of both territories who wanted to end the monarchy and bring back democracy. They're been attacking for years now.

"You okay, Ave?" Liam placed his hand over mind.

Before I could respond, my phone started ringing.

"Hello?"

"Avery, dear," It was my mom.

"Yeah?"

"C-come home immediately."

"Is everything okay?"

There was a pause. "Just h-hurry."

The line cut. I stared at my phone.

"What?" Liam waved a hand in my face.

"I have to hurry home for some apparent reason." I mumbled, gathering my books.

I threw a $10 on the table. "Bye."

"See you later!" Liam called.

I got into my car and sped off. I shook my head as I passed by beggars. In the pass 3 years the poverty rate had risen. My history teacher, Mr. Parker, believed we were going back to the Great Decline. Probably.

I pulled up to the house within minutes. As I got out of my car, something caught me off guard. There was a giant black bus parked on the side of the house. It looked like one of the tour buses that musicians had back in the 2000's. Except it had a royal seal on it.

I slowly got out of the car, it automatically locking, and made my way inside. My father and sister were sitting on the couch. My mother walked in the room, with three men behind her.

"What's going on?"

My mom walked up to me, and put a hand on my cheek. "Sweetie, there is someone in the office who would like to speak to you."
