Today marks the 15th anniversary of America's largest and most tragic terror attack.

Four planes were hijacked by extremists under the name Al-Qaeda.

The first plane was flown into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, causing havoc and confusion. What was first thought of as a freak accident was followed by the second plane, this one crashing into the South Tower. I won't go into the details, but it was devastating to watch.

An hour after the Twin Towers were attacked, the third plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington DC. The millions watching the events unfold in New York were stunned to see the attacks weren't over yet.

The fourth and final plane was one filled with passengers; California bound. Just after its take-off from a New Jersey airport, the passengers learned of the events in New York and how their plane was hijacked as well. Knowing fully they were not going to live, the brave people rushed the cockpit and regained control of the aircraft. It later crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. There were no survivors.

I point this out not only as a respectful gesture, but as a celebration of the American spirit. In the face of these tragedies, we didn't back down. We rose. Our country was brought together like never before.

American flags went out of stock at stores, and people from all different backgrounds joined together, proving we aren't a country to be broken.

I learned that children will now be learning about 9/11 in their history books and I can't help but feel surprised. Despite being so long ago, the wounds are still fresh. I will always hold this date in solemn remembrance of the 3,000 people that lost their lives.

May all those affected find peace.

Never forget.
