Summary/Introduction
Mallory Wendell is none other than your typical teenage girl. Not popular, not noticeable, but smart and friendly. Don't all stories start this way?
Well, meet Elliot Campbell, Mallory's crush. She has her reasons for liking him (his intelligence that he tries to hide amongst his popular friends, his humor, his facial expressions, the list could go on), but there's no way he would ever notice her for more than a girl in both his higher level math and writing classes.
That is, until the oh-so common partnership. Of course, Mallory and Elliot get partnered up for a writing assignment, in which Mallory is both thrilled and nervous (as any girl would be). Elliot might even be excited for it too, if it wasn't for his financial status. He must keep his homelessness a secret from Mallory at all costs so that he can still live a normal life at a perfectly happy public high school. No one needs to know.
But how easy is it to keep a secret from a nice, beautiful, intelligent girl who is trying to get to know you better?
Jonah Davidson, one of Mallory's close friends, has problems of his own. Who knew how hard it would be to provide for his single mom dying of cancer? How is he supposed to maintain his friendships and priorities at school when he has to sacrifice so much of his time making money and taking care of his mom? Not to mention the fact that neither Mallory nor Kylie knows about his problems.
Kylie Payton is just along for the ride. Having the two best friends in the world, she is as happy as can be. Elliot and Mallory would make the yearbook for 'cutest couple', no doubt. Her biggest problem is trying to get them together.
What happens when all four of them are thrust into a world of hardships, secrets, and betrayal? Follow these four people who learn some problems can be solved with the help of others, while others can't.
