(Another one! TRIGGER WARNING: Language, fighting, and blood)
Eli's POV:
"Let's go to the movies tonight after practice," Samuel tells Jamie and I throwing a baseball into my glove. We play catch on the field as we wait for the rest of the team to arrive for practice. "It IS your birthday, you deserve one good memorable birthday.""Yeah and you can bring your girlfriend with you too," Jamie says winking at me.
I scowl and throw the baseball harder than normal into his mitt. "She's not my girlfriend, she's my neighbor and duet partner," I inform him.
"Ow! Easy cabrón!" Jamie exclaims cradling his hurt hand. "You should see the way she looks at you Eli, she looks at you like you put stars in the sky."
"And you think she's just some girl," Samuel says closing his eyes and shaking his head.
I stop to think about it for a moment. She does want to be with me all the time whether I'm just buying a new sweater or getting coffee. When we're walking around farmer's market or anywhere in public, she holds onto my arm and leans her head on my shoulder. Plus she tells me everything about her classes and her job as a math tutor. But she won't invite me to her house for some reason.
She's really afraid of meeting new people. It was kinda hard for her to meet Jamie and Sam because she hid behind me the whole time we ordered food. But after meeting them a few more times she actually considers them her friends.
"Look alive boys here comes trouble," Samuel scoffs nodding his head in the direction of Trevor and Preston walking onto the field coming towards us.
"They're 20 minutes early," Jamie notes.
"Sloppy passes guys, we gotta get it perfect if we wanna win our next big game," Trevor says with fake enthusiasm shaking my shoulders roughly. God damn is everything he says dripping with sarcasm?
He grins at Samuel and Jamie with a perfect white smile while Preston walks behind him leering at us with his arms crossed making his muscles flex to look tough.
"You three are the best of friends right? Inseparable? Tell each other everything?" Trevor asks circling us with his lips curved into a smirk. His eyes have nothing but trouble written all over them. What fucking mind games is he playing now?
"Leave us alone Banks, don't you have a million dollar check to write?" Samuel tells Trevor narrowing his brows. He sees right through Trevor's shit too.
"Or a dick enlargement surgery to get," Jamie whispers to me. Trevor turns away from Samuel to glare at Jamie.
"That's no way to talk to your employer caddy boy, I could have you fired today if I wanted to," Trevor threatens.
Jamie closes his mouth immediately and lowers his head. "Yeah that's what I thought," spits Trevor.
"Don't fucking talk to him that way!" Samuel snarls lunging at Trevor. Preston uncrosses his arms and moves between them ready to fight.
"There's no point in firing him, he's leaving anyway," Trevor says from behind Preston. He pulls out a piece of paper from his back pocket to give to Preston and hands it to Samuel who snatches it out of his hand. He opens it and starts reading.
Samuel's face turns from anger to anguish. He closes his eyes as his face crumples. He gives me the paper and I start to read it as well.
"Jamie, why didn't you tell us your mom died?" I say looking up at him. His eyes are still fixated on the ground refusing to look at any of us.
"That you're leaving tomorrow morning to Mexico," Samuel mumbles. It's taking all of his strength to hold back his tears. All Sam has is Jamie and I, we practically saved him from his drug habit in high school. Losing one of us is like having one of his parents die. He cares too much about us to let us go.
"Did you read the part where it said don't tell anybody? That was my favorite personally," Trevor mocks.
"He just left the letter on the head coach's desk like a coward," Preston joins in. "Looks like the immigrant is finally getting deported to see his mama push up strawberries from the ground." The duo explode with evil laughter as Samuel and I stand there with our hearts breaking.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Jamie roars tackling Preston to the dirt. Punches fly as they fight for control to pin the other down. Preston's strength is the same as Jamie's so it's an even match.
"Get the fuck off of him!" Trevor yells raising his cleat to stomp the back of Jamie's head. While he's standing on one foot I rush him and push him over. His baseball cap falls off his head revealing his shaggy blonde hair when he lands on his back on the ground.
"You're gonna get it now fag," Trevor breathes out. He jumps to his feet with raised fists coming fast at me, but Samuel grabs him by the jersey to drag him back into the dirt.
"Fight me Sammy boy!" Trevor screams in frustration as he grips Samuel's ankle bringing him down too. They grip each other by the shirt collar with one hand and a handful of hair in the other. There's so much hatred and fire in their eyes. They're all practically killing each other. I'm too caught up in everyone fighting that I don't notice the coaches running towards the fights.
"STOP IT RIGHT FUCKING NOW," the head coach barks while the others break apart the guys. Preston looks worse than Jamie with a nasty bloody cut on his cheek, but Jamie has a few bruises forming on his face. Samuel and Trevor just have scratches with dirt all over them and their hair is a mess. Everyone is breathing hard as the head coach scolds us.
"I demand respect and discipline on my team; Lazaro! Garfield! You're suspended for the next 3 games!" the coach announces.
"No!" Samuel and Trevor protest in unison. "Alright, so are Banks and Ross," he decides.
"It's not even our fau-" I don't get to finish because he cuts me off. "You're gone too Marvel!"
"You can't do that!" Trevor yells as he steps to the coach. Their noses are practically touching as Trevor glares at him clenching his teeth.
"I don't care who your father is, you're out these next games and I will kick you off this team right now if you say another damn word," Coach says with venom in his voice.
Trevor shuts up, but his clear blue eyes look like they can summon a storm with the amount of anger that's in them.
While the rest of the team starts driving up in their cars, we're going in the opposite direction. Samuel and Jamie ride in my car to the mall so we can cool off and talk.
My music the only thing that is breaking the awkward tension as I pull out of the parking lot.
Stop and stare you start to wonder why you're here not there and you'd get anything to get what's fair, but fair ain't really what you need. Oh, can you see what I see.
I'm barely getting onto the freeway when Samuel asks "Jamie, what happened man?" I look in the rearview mirror at him. Jamie just silently stares out the window as a tear runs down his cheek.
(Poor Jamie :( please vote!)
