Weak morning sunlight reached over the horizon and touched the valley. The mountains cast gigantic shadows over the lower villages. Smoke from the previous night rose out of the small mouth of the cave. The humans had a hard time sleeping in the cold, wet cave. After many restless hours of tossing and turning, they finally fell into a peaceful sleep. Somebody stirred.
Outside in the light, Lyon moved in his makeshift bed. He sat up and combed back his messy hair with his fingers and turned to the others. "We should get up now, guys." He yawned as he stretched his arms and twisted his back until it cracked. With no response, he shook his head and put on his feathered hat. Stepping to the edge of the mountain path, he looked down at the vast valley lit up in front of him. He smiled and turned to wake up Lion.
"Lion! Lion! Wake up! We have to get the key while she's still asleep!" He prodded his friend. Lion rolled over and yawned, baring his long, sharp teeth. As the other awoke, Dandy found and unsheathed his odd brown sword.
He poked his head into the cave where the humans slept quietly. There was no movement. Only the sound of a dying fire and the dripping of water. He snuck around the bodies, but he could not see who was who. Finally he tripped over something and fell into the hot embers. The sleepy humans jolted up at his pained screeching. "Hmm? What?" Daisy looked up and rubbed her eyes.
Finally light poured into the large grey void. Lion picked Lyon up off of the cave floor. Dandy wiped off the ash and puffed out his chest. Pointing his sword at Daisy; he shouted, "You are coming with me!"
With the sword in her face, Daisy gave him a confused look. "Is that sword made out of wood?"
He stepped back defensively and offended. After a few seconds of blushing, he exploded. "It's! Bronze!" Then he smacked her in the head with the blunt blade, knocking her unconscious. He glared at the rest of the horrified kids and gave them the "I'm watching you" motion. "I'll just be taking this and leaving, thank you!"
Lyon threw Daisy onto Lion's back and disappeared from the cave. Everybody left stared at the entrance bewildered.
"What the heck just happened?" Lily broke the silence.
