I start to bring the rest of the horses in and see that Magic and Lilly seem to be getting along. I’m glad Magic has found a friend. There are a few people still working so I go and talk to them. I find Jamie cleaning out her horse’s stall.

“Hey Jamie.” Her head pops out of the stall and she puts down the pitch fork to talk.

“Hey you getting ready to leave?” she asks.

“Yeah I still have homework to do for tomorrow.” I tell her and pet Pattie’s head as it sticks out of her open door.

“Do you ever take a day off from working?” I shake my head.

“Nope, how is Pattie doing?” I joke changing the subject.

“You know her happy as always.” She says letting it slide.

“Good, are you going to be out tomorrow?” I ask her.

“I’m coming in the afternoon; I do not want to deal with the twins when Dylan comes.” She tells me jokingly.

“At lease you have the option you avoided them.” I joke back making her laugh.

“I’m sorry girl, do you want me to give lunch tomorrow?” she asks and I shake my head.

“No that is okay I can do it.” She always asks and I always tell her no.

“It is really no problem.” She tries.

“It’s okay I am going to want the peace and quiet seeing how Dylan starts school tomorrow.” I joke.

“How fun.” She says sarcastically.

“Not really, well I will see you tomorrow.” I tell her giving Pattie one last pat before turning to leave.

“Okay have a good night Whit.” She waves.

“You too.”

I leave the barn and walk up to the house. Jamie is a great lady, she has been boarding her horse Pattie her since I was a little girl. When I was little I wished that she was my mom, and that my dad would marry her but that never happened. I enter the house and see that no one is there. The twins must have went out shopping for a new wardrobe. I start on my homework and hear Olivia come in.

“Whitney!” my stepmom yells. She is yelling my name so I rush to see what she wants I know that it will not be good.

“Yes Olivia.” I say as soon as I find her.

“I bought the girls their western saddles and bridle you need to take them down to the barn and put them away. You also need to clean up the mess you made.”  I look at the floor and see that it is covered with dirt. Oops, but it only dirt it is not going to hurt anyone.

“Okay is that all?” I ask.

“For now.” She sneers at me.

I grab the keys to her van and drive it to the barn. I open the trunk and see the saddles and bridles she bought. They look very expensive and heavier than what I have been using on them. I find an open spot for the stuff and put them away. The saddles are not as heavy as they first seemed so they should not bother the horses. I look around to make sure everything is where it is meant to be and see a new saddle. The saddle is actually not new but I don’t recognize it. That must be Dylan’s saddle. I walk over and check it out, the seat is well worn. I can tell that it has been use a lot and that it is well cared for. Good equipment is hard to find and making it last takes dedication. I drive the van back up to the house and start to clean the floor.

Paige and Jordan are home and the three of them are in the dining room eating. I finish cleaning and grab a plate, there is hardly and food left but I am use to it. I sit down at the table and everyone else leaves. I eat my food alone as they go to their rooms. After I finish I clean up, then head up to bed and change my clothes. My bed invites me in and I fall into a deep sleep.
