Just like the rest of the place the house is beautiful there is now way to describe it other than it is every horse lover’s dream house. We make our way to what I would guess to be the living room and sit down. Alex and Jor both take a chair as me and Sam take the love seat and Scott take the couch. I look around and see a few pictures on the wall I can’t make out the faces but put everyone seems happy.
Me: So…
Alex: You must have a ton of questions.
Me: Yeah I have a few.
Jor: Well ask away.
Me: Why didn’t you try to meet me after my dad died?
Alex: We did sweetie but Olivia kept us away. She said that you didn’t even remember your mom so you didn’t need to meet us.
Sam lets out a growl and I laugh.
Sam: When will that woman stop trying to control your life?
I turn to him and take his hand, not in a romantic because that is just gross, but just to let him know it is okay.
Me: Soon as soon as I get my acceptance letter I’m out of there.
He gives me a small squeeze and I turn back to my aunt and uncle.
Me: When did you move back? You mentioned earlier that you moved.
Jor: We moved back two years before your dad died.
Me: How come I’ve never heard of this place before?
Alex: We take in very few borders, we mainly break horses.
That make since, I am involved in the showing barns not the training ones.
Me: How did you rope Scott into this and why did you act like…
I trail off, not being able to find the right words.
Jor: It’s okay we know what you mean. We didn’t want to scare you.
Alex: And about Scott, we really did go to college together. One day one of the horses got really sick and seeing how I’m not a full vet I needed a real one to get meds for him. Our vet was out of town so I called the emergency vet’s number and it was Scott to my surprise.
I feel like I’ve been lied to. All this time Scott knew but he didn’t tell me I had family here.
Me: Why didn’t you tell me about them Scott?
Scott: Trust me I wanted too, but how do you tell your eighteen year old God daughter that she has family?
Me: Easily, Whitney by the way your aunt and uncle from your mom’s side of the family live a few towns over and they would like to meet you.
Jor: Whitney it is not his fault, it’s ours. Because the lack of connection to you when we tried to go to the court to allow us visitation rights Olivia got them all denied.
Me: And no one thought to tell me this because?
Alex: Because we couldn’t Olivia had every law suit being throw against us and we couldn’t fight them.
Me: Why now, why meet me now? Why are you willing to risk it now?
Alex: Because your mom wanted us too.
Me: That still doesn’t explain it.
Jor: Your mom went through a tough pregnancy with you and she knew she might not make it. So she made a will that stated that during the year of your graduation you will be given a horse that has been trained from family since birth and will only allow family to ride.
