As she got out of her grey Honda Ridgeline she started to cry. She'd gotten kicked out of school because of the color of her wings. She'd never hurt anyone at the school, and though no one there liked her she had loved the place. She walked up the cobblestone path to her front door. She didn't bother taking her shoes off when she walked in the door, but was instead interested in how loud she could slam the door. When she did, the hinges rattled and the loud boom echoed throughout the large house.

Her parents were home, she could tell because their cars were in the driveway. Yet, neither of them yelled at her, or even looked up from their readings as they sat on the couch.

"What the hell is your problem!" She screamed at them. They hadn't defended her nor had they tried to talk the school out of expelling her.

"Scarlett, dear, can't you see we're reading." Her mothers chipped voice sounded harsh.

"Your mother and I didn't want you in that school in the first place. Not since you fell, Scarlett. You were a disgrace to that school in the first place. You know, He marked you by the color of your wings, and that is why you were not accepted at that great school. He was giving every one else around you a big bold signal." Her father stated.

"Oh yeah? What's that signal dad." She snapped. Neither of her parents had looked up from their books.

"To stay away from you." He said simply. "You can go to your room and do your own studying now. No school in their right mind would accept you. Home schooling is the only option. You are your own teacher."

She scowled at them, her anger rising so much that her face had turned red. She turned and stomped up the spiral, wrought iron staircase. She walked across the hallway. On one side was the balcony that overlooked the kitchen and living room, and on the other was a wall with a few doors in it. She walked to the end of the hall, walking through the open doorway, then turned and slammed the door shut.

When she turned back around she tossed her backpack onto a large queen sized bed. The bed's sheets were a soft teal and the comforter was a light coral color. It was made, as usual, and it was stacked with decorative pillows covered with silver and white sparkles, sequins, as well as teal and coral fabric. The walls of her room were painted with a matte light tan color.

She walked to her window and opened it. It was still light out, and school was still going. She realized she hadn't said anything to Lirah before she had left the school. Lirah was Scarlett's best friend. She was extremely tall, and very beautiful; but the best thing about Lirah was her elemental powers. Lirah could control fire, water, earth, air and spirit. She practically lightened the mood of a room when she walked in. Scarlett was a bit perturbed as to why she had completely spaced off her best friend. She pulled out her laptop from her backpack and climbed onto her bed, opening her laptop and pulling up a chat box, and waited for Lirah to log on.
