Steve loved the sound of a tire zooming down the street. The tapping of the rain, gloomy skies, if he wasn't in the driver's seat right now he'd be lost in day dreams right now. He couldn't explain why he loved the rain so much, it was so soothing. So peaceful. He could almost fall asleep..
"Is everything alright?" The woman in red asked. And if it wasn't for the therapeutic properties of the rain Steve would have lost control over the wheel. "Why are you driving like you're the drunk one?"
Without responding, Steve sat up straighter and realized that he was crossing over to the other lane. Frantic with fear Steve pulled the wheel sharp to the right almost hitting another car. The tires slipped down the street causing the car to crash into a lamppost.
He looked over at Bucky who was still passed out. "I think the car is still good to drive. Uhm. Where do you live again?" He turned to the woman.
"Down the road." She said. "In the other direction."
"Right." He nodded and drove off before anyone walked over to see the damage and hold him responsible.
The car ride to Peggy's house was longer than both of them hoped for. No one really spoke and Steve liked the quiet but riding in fear of the possibility of her speaking was what made him anxious the whole time.
What if she commented on his driving? What if she wanted to talk about her day? Girls like talking about their day, right? What would he say when she asked him about his day and how he was doing?
"Stop the car, please." Her British accent sent chills down his spine. So soft and relaxing.
Like rain.
"Is this your house?" Steve asked nervously. He could hear the shaking in his voice.
"My house is up ahead but.. Could I just go back with you?"
Without any thought or concern of her being Steve whipped his head around so fast that it caused his neck to burn. "W-what why?"
"I just.. Don't wanna go home. I've realized that now."
She was so soothing. Like rain. Her voice bounced off the walls and made Steve's ears sing. Her face was so soft but rigid. Like a storm could. She was pristine but he knew she could kick ass if she wanted to. And her lips.. So red. Like a cherry.
"May I?" She snapped him out of his daze.
"Yeah, yeah. Sure." Steve rubbed his hands on his pants. The nerves were making his cells itch. Was he really bring a girl to his house? After his last relationship he's been so afraid of anyone who wasn't Bucky. Especially those female. The only one who didn't abuse him was his mother. But she was out of the picture.
In his nose and out his mouth. He whispered as quietly as possible. "Stay clam, Steven."
"What was that?"
"I-I said, that, I- there's no." He cleared his throat but his voice was still odd to him. "I don't have any.. Girly things at my apartment.. No clothes or Barbie dolls or-"
"Barbie dolls?" She snickered. "Is that a joke?"
"Ha ha, yeah. I was only joking." Steve gripped the wheel so tight that his knuckles turned white. "But I don't know what you would want to do there. It's.. It's pretty boring."
"That's quite alright." And although he wasn't looking, Peggy gave him a slight smile.
He put his car in reverse turned around and went down the other road. He was curious as to why she didn't want to go home all of a sudden. But decided it best not to poke his noses where it didn't belong.
