Author's note: I've been hiding this for too long and I sorta want to release it to see how it does. Enjoy?

"Ugh! I don't see why you even care about your job! Honestly, you don't even need it!" I complained as we drove though the busy, new city. Formerly my family had lived in sunny Florida but, for whatever brilliant reason, my father packed everything up and we are currently moving to New York. "Because, doing nothing is boring, and we wanted a change of scenery," my father replied looking at me from the mirror. I starred at his bright yellow-green eyes in the mirror, they had this weird way of making me relax. "Beside," my mother piped in turning around in her seat, "it's not like anyone'll miss you." I would have been offended if she didn't have a point. I never had any friends that were worth keeping. Most of them really sucked. What can I say, I don't know how to pick and choose 'em. Actually most of them I just went out to eat with.

"Aunika! Are you listening?" My mother screamed angrily. Snapping out of it my eyes met her fierce emerald ones. "Huh?" Her nostrils flared, her cheeks flushed and her fiery red tresses were slightly out of place. No, she wasn't angry. My mother has quite the temper and hates being ignored, she doesn't go one day without making this face at me at least once. Sighing my mother turned around again. "You've got to stop that incessant day dreaming, Aunika. You worry both Reginald and I with that macabre stare."
My father began to laugh and ran a hand through his thick brown hair. "Vivienne don't drag me into this, I have said nothing of the sort. I say, let the girl dream."

A smirk crept across my lips and I looked out my window as we began to slow in front of a small grey stone house. I sighed with relief, internally that is. I was so glad I didn't have to live in a tiny tenement or anything of the sort, though I wasn't going to let my parents know I cared. They'd probably lecture me on why I should appreciate what I have and how I should be more humble. We quickly stepped out of the Mini Cooper and began to stretch our stiff muscles. It was so relieving to move around after driving for so long. The sun had just risen and it was bright outside but that wasn't a problem. We gathered our things from the back of the car and got settled in the cozy home. It only had two floors, excluding the basement, and three bedrooms. I immediately chose the room with the most windows. The view was shitty but it was better for when summer came around.

"Aunika!" My mother called. Groaning I went to see what she wanted. Trudging out of my new room I raised an eyebrow and looked at her down the hall. "If you're hungry you'll have to go get some food yourself, your father just inhaled our leftovers from the trip." I grinned and began downstairs. "Oh, Aunika! Bring some back if you can, okay?" My father called after me. Shaking my head I stepped outside and took a deep breath. "Perfect." I looked around once more to make sure no one was around an then swiftly sprinted down the street, keeping to the shadows so not to be seen.

Arriving at some kind of park or forest perhaps, I smelled the air again. There was a rustle in the shrubbery a few meters away. With a smirk I caught a glimpse of a large deer, a buck. I crept up behind it as it grazed on some grass, stalking my prey. As soon as it pulled its head up, I pounced, wrapping my limbs around it and sinking my canines into its neck. I shivered as the warm blood of the animal poured down my throat. The far too pleasant sensation I usually got when feeding quickly came over me. It was a bit more overbearing this time, being that it has been quite a while since my last meal. My heart began to beat faster, pumping the new blood through my veins and I could feel my body become warmer. Looking down at my hand I watched it become a bit less pale. I didn't have anything to eat in the car because I was too busy moping and complaining. In case you haven't realized yet, I'm a vampire.
