I saw him
e v e r y w h e r e.
He was the grass,
the ground,
the flowers.
He was the trees,
the leaves,
the birds.
He was the sun,
the moon,
the sky.
He was the children,
the teens,
the adults.
He had windows,
lights,
he was home.
He was water,
He was air,
He was the universe.
He was life itself.
He had life vests,
couldn't drown,
He had fire suits,
couldn't burn,
He had bandages,
couldn't break.
He was that tiny
drop
of
ink,
that swelled,
and stood as sand against
the w a v e s.
He was infinity.
And then, I knew
that I couldn't have him,
Because oh, he was so in love
with the world,
that he became it.
And I,
just.
wasn't.
