A Week Later

Silver sighed the week had dragged slower than a three legged turtle crawling in quicksand. He pushed himself out of bed slipping into his boots and made his way down the long corridor of the living quarters of the G.U.N HQ and into the meeting room. Team Chaotix, Team Sonic, half of his father's team, and Amy were all stewing in a tensed atmosphere that choked him as soon as he walked into the room. It was too early for this kind of stress, and to think he hasn't even had breakfast yet.

He sat down looking at the small stack of papers of dead leads more than a week old. Since his father went missing the Commander had been called on a UN meeting addressing the concern of the capture of Mephiles, the scepters coming together, and the disappearance of both the cat and Shadow. Since Shadow had gone, Commander put Silver in charge, Something Rouge wasn't too happy about since she claims to have worked there longer and knows more, but that didn't mean any disrespect between the two thankfully. He heaved another deep breath sparing a glance at the papers not bothering to read over them. Just as the week before it was the same dead leads and no hope for much progress if any at all. He looked around at his friends surrounding the table bewildered and exhausted of the tail chase and wished there was something he could do to make things look up again. But there was nothing, just the same questions he'd asked everyday for the past week.

"Have you tried calling Shadow's cell?" He asked Amy already knowing she had done so over a billion times.
"Yes. He still hasn't picked up." She nodded worry weighed down her eyes and tugged her mouth into a frown fearing the worst for her husband.
"Well, keep trying." He said for the millionth time that week.
'THUMP!' Sonic's fist hit the table making not only the papers but everyone around him lightly jolt their bowed heads alert and looking around. "That's it, I've had it! I'm not waiting anymore." He stood from his seat.

"Sonic where are you going?!" Tails jumped to his feet ready to follow.
"To talk to Mephiles." He answered already grabbing the doorknob and yanking the big grey door open.

"Sonic I don't think--" Silver started but Sonic's angry glare over his shoulder silenced him.
"Really Silver? You don't think it's a good idea?! Shadow disappears at the same time Mephiles' girlfriend; or whatever she is to him does, at the same time the scepters stop showing up on the radar, Eggman goes quiet, aside from our missing persons things have been too relaxed around here, like the calm before a storm. And you don't think Mephiles has ANYTHING to say about this?!"
"Alright but, let me handle Mephiles." Silver stood up meeting Sonic at the door.

"Silver are you sure?" Espio asked knowing the hedgehog was unfortunately easily manipulated by the demonic hedgehog.
"I'm sure." He nodded again stating firmly. He felt he should be the one to talk to him after all it was his family he's tearing apart after his hard work to bring them together.
With no further objections Silver found himself walking down to the prison where Mephiles dwelled making it a cozy home.

"Silver~" Mephiles voice met him in a tone that would have never seem possible for the deep voice, a light happy tone that almost sang out in a flamboyant over joyed manner, "I haven't had any visitors for a while, I was beginning to think you all had forgotten about me."
"No." He grumbled, just being around Mephiles made his quills stand on end and his blood boil, but this time he'll swallow that back, he'll act emotionless, unphased by any smart sarcastic remark or twisted sick plot the demon hedgehog had in mind for him. "Do you remember the last time you were in contact with agent Midnight?"
"In more ways than one!" His voice danced in a tune of laughter, "Would you like to know how deep in I was in conversation, our nails prickling the very sensitive areas of the situation, passionately thought about future positions against every wall of this holding cell. Pinned the helpless weak links to the wall yanked and beat out all the ones that would fail to bring success into this world until finally--!" He groaned deeply as if eating a tenderly prepared meal and sighed with a release of a heavy weight he had carried for centuries.
"I... Did you just--" Silver hadn't wished to go back and change time in a while, even after Blaze had met her end, but right now he was wishing to go back and maybe not handle talking to Mephiles. "Listen, did she tell you anything about where she would be staying? You haven't gotten any visitors because she's been missing. She's the only one sick enough to visit a thing like you anyway."
After another fit of laughter Mephiles replied,"Honestly I was expecting you sooner. Your father goes missing and you wait this long to ask someone who could really help you? Or maybe you know he's really not missing? You know he left on his own accord, and he doesn't want to come back. Not to you, his son who can't begin to appreciate all that he's sacrificed throughout the years just for him. To Amy? Tch that little girl always-- how does it go; jumping the gun on things? Marriage to an immortal with more power than a hydrogen bomb can contain, she holds nothing for him after having you they should have ended years ago. They both know that, they both see it this time away; it's a test that will make or break them. And guess what~" he broke off into more laughter, "they're getting ready to snap their separate ways like a tortured turkey's wishbone!" He snapped his fingers, "just like that!"
