I walked through the hallway and knocked on Lady Everett's door.

"Come in," a voice said from the other side of the door. I twisted the handle and the door swung open. I was struck with an overwhelming smell of incense that want straight to the back of my throat. Gagging slightly, I walked in.

"So how can I help you?"

"Well, um..."

"Laura?" Lady Everett cut me off.

"Yes mum?" She groaned and spun round.

"How many times have I told you not to book appointments with me?" She glared into my eyes. "And another thing, I have told you not to call me mum outside the house have t I? Get out!"

A tear threatened to pierce my eye. Furiously, I held it back. she was never at home so when did I ever get to call her mum? Never. Surely that's not normal? Hastily, I stood up grabbing my bag. Mum, oh sorry, Lady Everett, turned back to her work her robes swishes and tinkling with all the beads and sequins on them. I pulled open the door and as soon as I was free of the smell of incense I gulped in two massive puffs of air, not realising that I had been holding my breath.

I walked in the front door to find a note in Callum's scrawled handwriting had been posted through the letterbox. I picked it up and peered around the house, checking that no one was in. Deciding it was all clear I peeled the Sellotape off the note and it sprinted open. I scanned my eyes over it.

Dear Laura,

As you know I turned eighteen yesterday. I have gotten extremely lucky and have found my mate already. Please come and meet me in the woods so I can explain better.

Love Callum x

For the second time today, tears threatened to spill over, and this time I didn't even attempt to hold them back. My knees went weak and I crumpled onto the floor. I knew this was going to happen i guess. A Light Angel would never be mates with a Dark Angel. But, why just as something started to form between me and Callum. Really? Fate was cruel.

Sometime later, I heard a key twist in front of the door. Sam came in looking weary and depressed.

"Oh my gosh! Little sis, are you okay?" He knelt down beside me. I nodded my head and spent a few minutes pulling myself together. I looked at him. I mean really looked at him.

"Are you feeling okay?" It wasn't natural for him to act like this. He stood up, grumbling in the back of his throat, and walked away. I knew it was too good to be true. Sam being nice to me. Never.
