Chapter 1: I hear my name. Either its a dream or I'm crazy.

No… Holly. Don't go on the boat. It’s raining. Holly, please don't leave me alone. Holly, look at the waves! Don’t go on the boat. It’s too late. Please don’t. Holly…

A familiar scream rent my dreams and I woke up startled. I rubbed my eyes and checked the time. Nine o’clock. I was going to be late. I groaned and put on my clothes. I opened the curtains and looked out. Holly, I thought, looking guiltily at my neighbour’s house. My breath fogged up my view and I turned away. I scanned the picture that hung above my desk. It was Holly with her green eyes and red hair and me with my blue eyes and black hair. We were both smiling happily. Before all… this… happened.

“Jesse! Get downstairs soon! School’s about to start!” My mum called, "It's the second last day! Hurry up!"

Sighing, I slung my bag over my shoulder and checked myself in the mirror. Black pants, a white t-shirt and black leather jacket clothed my thin body. My messy black locks framed my pale face and my cold blue eyes shone out daringly. If there was one thing Holly had taught me, it was to not care at all. I closed my eyes again, Holly.

Walking out of the house, I plugged in my earphones, ignoring the pitying glances and angered glares I received from everyone else. They didn’t know how I felt. They had no right hate me for being like this. They had no right to pity me. I didn’t want their sympathy.

“Jesse!” an arrogant voice that I absolutely hated called out. It was Nathan and his friends.

I continued walking, shoulders hunched, “Leave me alone.”

“Well look at that! Emo kid has attitude!” Nathan acted shocked, making everyone laugh.

“Still waiting for Holly?” Nathan sneered into my ear. I stiffened and stopped walking.

“She’s not going to come back for you Jesse,” he continued.

“Shut up,” I clenched my fist.

“It’s not like she can. Stop dreaming Jesse. Why she even liked you is a question in itself. What would she think about you now? She must have been stupid to think that-” my fist collided with Nathan’s as he caught it my punch with a hand in mid air, interrupting his speech.

I looked him in the eye, “She wouldn’t like you as you are now.” Nathan’s pretty face reflected some of my emotions. His brown eyes glowered at me with anger and amusement and a faint smile played across his tanned face.

“Woah. Jesse’s gonna fight back!” Nathan laughed mockingly as I formed another fist.

“Leave me alone,” I snarled.

“Leave me alone,” Everett mimicked in a high-pitched voice, “Or what? You’ll punch us all? Wow I’m so scared.” My fingernails dug into my palm causing blood to flow from the half moon shaped cuts.Oh what you get me into, Holly.

“No he’s going to tell someone. Well I don’t think anyone can stand you enough to be able to listen. Maybe Holly, but I don’t think she’s available right now,” Nathan was really irritating me now.

“Holly would still be here if it wasn’t for you Nathan,” I looked at his face. It became a hardened mask of resentment, not a single trace of guilt, “Now go away before I make you.”

“Wow that is scary,” Everett’s pale white hair flew into his blue eyes, “Did we hit a nerve?” I punched him in the nose as hard as I could and he staggered back clutching at his nose.
