Chapter 7: I’m watching you; I’ve always been watching you.

My mind wandered around in emptiness. I pushed myself to the edges of the trees.

“We have to stop him!”

“Can’t get near him remember?”

“Follow him then!”

Clear, cold water rushed over the rocky floor, a white light illuminated the water beneath my feet. A river of silver. I lifted my arms and summoned a strong wind to propel me forwards. I knew nothing but a single name. Naomi.

“He’s crossed the river how do we follow him now?”

“Run and get the spare boat!” Nathan’s panicked voice was little more than a whisper to me. I turned to face them again. They stopped running, colour draining from their faces.

“Stay,” the word issued from my mouth in a voice that wasn’t mine.

“What the-”

“Stay,” spoke the voice in a whisper. Their pale faces glanced at me. Our eyes met and then they collapsed. Motionless and frozen in time.

I drifted further away, wandering until I reached an empty street lit by a few streetlights. The windows of the surrounding houses filled with an orange glow. Too bright, too obvious. I need to hide, they can’t find me now. My mission is not yet complete. I spread my arms outwards and the world darkened. The sounds of laughter and music from the houses stopped. Confusion was eminent. The streetlights were dull and flickering. People crowded to the windows, trying to get a glimpse of what was happening. My eyes met with one of them. The fear in them was so deep I put a finger to my lips and the world was silent and paused in time. Naomi. The wind carried me towards the only house with the lights still on. I shut off the power and walked around to a window. The darkness in the street guided me with whispers towards my target. Naomi.

She was getting up out of her seat. I sent a gust of wind to rustle the curtains. She turned around. Green eyes wide, I saw her name on my lips as she stepped closer. Horror, curiosity and worry emanated from her. She took another step. A step too close. A step closer to her downfall. I lifted my hand. A powerful force smashed the window and glass flew everywhere. Shards sliced through the air and into her skin, Time slowed down as I watched the blood trickle out of her and form a puddle under her body. Her screams rent through the stagnant air. People rushed out and gathered around her. I collapsed on my knees next to her as the sirens wailed noisily. A swarm of faces crowded my view and red lights flashed. They shouted at me, shaking my body. Too much noise. Too loud. The world disappeared.

----

Beep. Beep. Beep. Man that noise is getting annoying. I stretched an arm out from under the blankets and hammered around with my hand, trying to turn off the alarm. My hand met air and I stretched further out to see if it was any further away. Soon I had fallen onto the ground.

“Wha?” I sat up, suddenly very alert and awake. Where am I? Everything was strangely sterile. So definitely not my room.

“Oh good you’re awake,” Someone said to my left, just on the other side of the bed. I pushed myself up and looked towards the voice. It was some dude wearing a coat thing and holding a clipboard.

“Uh yeah. Why?” I blinked as he reached forward and pulled a tube thing out of my nose. Oh that was the funny sensation in my nose.

“You’ve been out for a few hours. Don’t worry still the same year and month. Just the next day.”
