Chapter 5: Surprises

I smile as he grasps my hand with the gentleness of feather, his thumb lightly grazing the top of my hand.  Slowly with more grace than a Japanese crane he guides me down the dimly lit hall, leaving the refuge that I was placed in as a form of vigilance by not just Adrian but probably his parents as well who I haven’t seen yet. Adrian gently pulled me to his side as we casually wraps his arm around my waist to stabilize me just in case I stumbled or even fainted; truthfully  I am still light-headed so I am glad he is here otherwise I would probably trip and fall flat on my face.

“What floor are we on?” I finally manage to ask as I view at the different portraits of Zachary and Sarora and some of Echo.

“The second floor, down this hall is Zachary and Sarora’s room as well as several guest rooms, six bathrooms, a secret room and two studies,” Adrian states with a smile.

I missed the rest of what he said entirely because the only thing I focused the most on were the words, ‘Zachary and Sarora’s room’.  I gave Adrian a freaked out look one that immediately sent him the only thing he needed to know that something he said was wrong and odd, at least to me.  His smile faded just as quickly as it appeared and he tilted his head staring at me, like he is trying to read my expression almost as much as I am trying to read the reality behind his words.

“What is wrong?” he finally asked his voice shaking slightly but not noticeable right away.

“Zach and Sarora share a bedroom like as in sharing one bed and everything?” I repeat with my true feelings of the situation echoing in my voice.  In my mind everything started to make sense, they must be really close siblings if they are wrapped around one another, sharing a bedroom and everything.  I nearly gagged at the thought of incest being present between the two of them.

“Well yeah they do but Sarora isn’t related to us, not at all,” Adrian states in defense of the situation.  “Sarora was abandoned by her parents’ years ago and my parents’ willingly took her in and treated her like one of their own.  Naturally as beautiful as Sarora is my brother fell in love with her and well they have been together ever since then.”

I felt myself sigh with relief that his “siblings” were not close in the sense that I was thinking but in the sense that they have been there for one another for years and like all things their love developed and consumed them.  We continue down the hall as I admire different photos of people I do not know.  I assume they are related to Adrian somehow, but looking at the situation between Zach and Sarora, I cannot be absolutely sure.  Room after room, he shows me several guest rooms, some darker and creepier than others that are brighter and cheerful in comparison.

“So what other rooms are here on this floor?” I ask slowly as we pass another darkly decorated guest room.

“A very special room, one I know you would love,” he smiles as he laced his fingers with mine very affectionately.

“A dance studio?” I blurt out loudly.

Embarrassed for my sudden outburst I can feel the blood rushing to my cheeks.  Oh god he probably thinks I am a fool for shouting out a random room that I would love to have in my house when I am able to buy one after I go to school.  He probably doesn’t think I am as interesting or fun anymore due to my sudden energy that just wanted to surface today after I nearly died; way to go Pandora, real smooth, there is a snowball’s chance in hell that he would want to date you now.  Adrian simply laughs not showing a single sign of embarrassment just amusement for my random question.
