Dan and Phil were tired of being in the house every day, and as weird as that may sound, it was true. Luckily enough it was their friend Marcus's birthday. Joe was throwing a party for him at his place and they decided to go.

They stayed for a some hours until it was very late in the night. "Ready to go?" Dan asks,

"Yeah." Phil replies.

They say their goodbyes, give a few hugs, and wish Marcus a happy birthday. They head out the door and hail a cab.

"That was fun right?" Dan asks as he pulls his seat belt over himself.

"2/10, not enough cake." Phil says, making Dan laugh.

"There's never enough cake for you, Phil."

They continue to talk about the party but fall into somewhat silence as they're almost to their flat. Dan did like being out but likes being safe at home with Phil more.

Dan looks out the window of the cab. He looks at the lights and thinks how everything is brighter at night. Even when it's freezing outside, the lights of a city can warm you up. He was happier than he'd been in a long time.

But suddenly, there's just a light. Just a bright light and noise surrounding everything. Then everything goes dark and everything is absolutely silent.
