"1...2...3!" I exclaimed as Haley and I turned our papers around at the same time to see what we got on out last project.

“93! What about you Ren?”

“86” I said, my disappointment seeping from my mouth.

“Hey that’s not too bad, I mean it’s a B-“Haley replied trying to cheer me up.

“Yeah, I guess” I said, forcing myself to smile.

Not that my parents would care that I got an 86, it’s a lot better than what they expect. They just except passing since my three older brothers fail practically every test. I’m my parents’ golden child, let alone the baby girl of the family. My oldest brother, Nick, barley squeezed by in high school and now he is 24 finishing up his last year of college. Then came Josh, age 22, just back from studying abroad for a few years in Italy. Evan is a freshman in collage at the age of 19. Lastly, the baby of the family is me. Age 17, junior in high school, always having to prove to my parents that I’m nothing like my brothers. I’m a smart, independent…

“Lauren Dallas”

Knowledgeable, caring…

“Miss Dallas”

Responsible young woman.

“MISS DALLAS!”

I snapped out of my thoughts and realized my teacher was yelling for me, taking attendance. I looked up, feeling the blush on my cheeks grow. I gave her a sheepish smile.

“Here” I answered her, with my barely audible voice.

For the rest of the class I sat in the back of the room and paid attention, drawing no extra attention to myself, making sure I didn’t get on my teacher’s nerves any more.

I said goodbye to my group of friends and got in my dark silver Mercedes Convertible.

“Hey Brooke, miss me?” I asked my car. I obviously knew she wasn’t going to respond but I always talked to my car. It was my baby and took me years of saving up money, and begging my parents to let me buy it. Brooke is the biggest accomplishment in my life because I bought her all by myself.

As I drove home I turned up my music when I heard Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus on. I came to a stop at a red light and I started belting out the chorus and drumming my hands on the steering wheel. As I was rocking out I turned my head to the left and noticed a drop dead gorgeous boy about my age smirking at me next to me in his car. I realized my convertible top was down so he heard me loud and clear. A blush spread on my cheeks and I turned forward, keeping my eyes glued to the light wishing it would change faster. I saw he was still staring at me from the corner of my eye and I blushed even more. Come on, come on I thought, secretly begging the light to turn green. As soon as it did I sped off towards my house and didn’t even glance back to the hottie that had heard my take on Wrecking Ball.

When I entered my house the familiar smell of warm chocolate chip cookies filled my nose.

“Hey y’all, what ya making?” I asked as I saw my Mom and Nick at the kitchen counter.
