"you obviously need it."

shadewillow shuddered. was it really that bad?

two sunrises had passed. shadewillow and moonwhisker were the only ones who knew her secret. she was on a hunting patrol with shadowbriar.

"so, are you glad that school's over?" shadowbriar asked casually.

shadewillow mewed, "yeah. wow that was boring! i think i liked being an apprentice better!"

shadowbriar nodded and padded on.

Shadowbriar suddenly meowed, "who do you like?"

Shadewillow turned. "Like, like like? No one." she continued to pad on.

Shadowbriar flattened his ears. "No one at all? You and that calico seemed close. Dont think i didnt notice when you came back from school that one day. His scent was smothering you." he growled.

Oh no! He means the day that dog tackled me! What-

"So?" he pressed.

...............

"I was looking for new territory for us, and he tackled me," she explained. At least that was true.

Shadowbriar narrowed his eyes. "How can i trust you?"

"Because im your clanmate, and your deputy."

Shadowbriar was stalking a mouse, not paying any more attention.
