Kaycee stomped her way to her house, in front of where her brother's living corpse stands. Saltwater blurs her view and she steps on a crumpled piece of paper in the road. Nathan walking a good distance behind, terrified of his friend's response to him getting too close. Nathan stops to pick up the paper, he takes a look and shoves it in his pocket. Jackson's bloody, dirty, and mangled body comes into view. Kaycee pulls out her silenced pistol and begins firing at Jackson, she stifles a sob and lowers her gun. She looks to see she missed with every pull of the trigger. She falls to her knees and buries her head in her waiting hands.

Nathan walks up behind Kaycee and puts his hand on her shoulder. She stands up quickly and aims her gun at Nathan.

"Woah" Nathan says, Kaycee cocks her gun and steps backwards towards Jackson.

"Don't you fucking move!" Kaycee says.

"What'd I do?" Nathan asked, raising his hands in the air.

"Jackson would've lived if you could've just left the fucking house!" Kaycee roared, the gun making light metallic sounds as it shook in her hands.

"That may be true but killing me won't save him." Nathan said.

"But maybe him killing you will save him" Kaycee said.

"Your logic makes no sense" Nathan said.

"Fuck off!" Kaycee screeched, she put her finger on the trigger and pulled it slightly.

"Kaycee..." Nathan said.

"No!" Kaycee shouted, "I wanna see your face when I fucking shoot you!"

Jackson came up behind Kaycee and opened his decaying mouth and went to bite.

Kaycee closed her eyes and smiled. Nathan pulled his gun out of his belt and aimed at Jackson's head. He pulled the trigger.

As Jackson's lifeless body fell to the ground, Nathan ran at Kaycee and tackled her to the ground. He pinned her arms down, she tried to escape and Nathan looked her in the eye.

Kaycee stopped fighting and began sobbing. "I'm so sorry!" She cried.

"Who are you sorry to?" Nathan asked.

"You!" She sobbed. "I almost killed you!"

"But you didn't" Nathan said.

"I was about to" Kaycee let out one last wail.

"Well, you're not really helping yourself, now are you?" Nathan said, "I'm gonna let go now." He stood up and stuck out his hand, offering to help Kaycee up. Kaycee took his hand and he pulled her up.

Kaycee wiped her eyes of tears.

"Hey, I found something on the street earlier" Nathan said. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the crumpled piece of paper.

"What's it say?" Kaycee asked.

"It says;

Stay away from any infected individuals. Anyone infected with the 2479 virus, if found by the Disease Control Unit will be disposed of.
If you or anyone you know is infected, please turn them into the Disease Control Unit immediately"

"What's 2479?" Kaycee asked.

"Wait, there's something written on the back" Nathan said, flipping over the paper, "They caused this, they thought they had it under control. They did this, they ended the world"

"Who's they?" Kaycee asked.

"Maybe" Nathan began, then he looked down at the paper. "He's talking about the DCU, they made the virus"
