Lillie's POV'Lillie wake up.' 'Were bored.' 'Lets play a game!' I slowly opened my eyes to see Tom and Mary standing over me. "Why?" I asked rolling over so my back faced them. 'Cause we wanna play.' Mary stated pulling me by my arm. I shrugged her off only to hear her scoff. ' You're going to regret that.' Mary said her voice getting deep and scratchy.
"Bite me.." I muttered falling back into a deep sleep as I listened to the low whispers around me. I wish I had a dream that night. But I guess my mind had to much circulating around it.
"The longer you sleep Ms.Patil. The longer the case will be!" I could distantly make out Ms.Parkers voices as I tried to pull myself out of my sleeping state. My eyes opened only to roll back into my head. "I said not to stay up late." She stated as she fixed the clothes on my bed. I grabbed my head feeling as if someone was drilling twenty nails into my skull.
"I don't feel well.." I muttered as I sat up instantly grabbing my head as it throbbed more. Ms.Parker lightly placed her hand over my forehead. "Tsk.. you don't have a fever. Now let's go. You need to eat. I already called for a cab." I slid out of bed letting my feet rest on the icy floor. "I swear a tortoise can move faster.." I heard Ms.Parker scoff as she walked out of my room.
I threw on my clothes and combed my fingers through my hair as I looked at myself in the mirror. 'Your going to hell for what you've done.' My reflection stared back at me with a glare. I shook my head closing my eyes tightly. 'Don't act so innocent.' I opened my eyes and all I saw was a scared little girl. I rubbed my head and walked out of my room. I saw Alissa standing at the end of the hall writing in a notebook, and Jasmine strutting into the dining area.
As I walked by Alissa she put the notebook in her pocket and followed by myside to the dining room. "Where are you going this afternoon?" She asked as we rounded the corner. I shrugged "Ma did something. I have to go to court." I whispered as I looked ahead of me at Jasmine's hair. "Do you know what happened?" Alissa asked another question.
"No. Why are asking me so many questions?" I asked her back as she shrugged. "Curiosity." She said blinking twice. I nodded "Okay. Didn't know if it had anything to do with that black book of yours." I stated as I turned back into the line for today's meal. Gray eggs. 'How do you even get them that shade?' I shrugged and grabbed a bowl from Ms.Parker.
*************************
I have been in this cab for twenty minutes. How far from civilisation can we possibly be? Before being pushed through the doors Ms.Parkers Home I was told to just walk into the court house and look for a man holding a sign with my name on it. Even though this cab smelled of rotten fish I was still happy to see Ma. She was probably fighting to get me back home.
Maybe she is stable now. I sat between Tom and Mary. Mary was still angry at me for not playing one of her midnight games but I didn't care. Tom was still talking to me. 'Just smile and act like everything is okay' I nodded and smiled at Tom. 'You've done nothing wrong. Remember that.' Of course I did nothing wrong. I looked to Mary who stared through me as if I was made of glass. 'You just love your lies.' She mumbled as the cab stopped.
The court house is scary. Its like a haunted house for kids. It's huge and full of cold and cruel adults. Most criminals reside there til they can be sentenced by a group of strangers. Who all see truthfully one side depending on who the person was, what they looked like, and the crime he or she did or didn't commit. Who knows how many criminals they let walk free and how many innocent people have been left to rot behind those bars.
I sat at a table alone with only one man while on the other side was a weeping old man and woman. I looked around the court to not find Ma anywhere. I looked at the elders next to us to see them already staring at me. I smiled at them only to receive a terrified look. I tilted my head then turned away. 'They are just some confused old folks. Don't let it get to you.' I nodded again receiving a few stares.
"While the court now rise." I heard a booming voice go over the court as everyone stood I slowly stood looking around. "Today's case will be the case of The Marcus' against Ms. Patil over the murder of The son Mike Marcus and Cindy Patil. The jury and I will be finding if Ms.Lilac Patil is guilty of Murder in the First Degree." The court stayed silent for a minute I felt stares all around.
I looked up at the man next to me and tugged at his sleeve. He looked down at me and nodded. "What does that mean?" I asked as he looked to the judge who nodded him to speak. "It means you are being tried for. For intentionally killing and planning the murder of your mother and her lover." I nodded and looked at the Judge. 'Why?' I looked over to Mary and Tom who gave me a stern glance. 'You did nothing wrong. Just stay calm. It'll be over soon.' I nodded again and looked to the Judge.
"Ms.Patil how do you plead." I tilted my head to the side. "Guilty or Not Guilty child." I whispered Oh and simply stated "Not Guilty." Getting a nod from Tom.
