Riverkit looked at the starry cats around her. This must be the "starclan" that her father spoke about all the time... She thought. A fiery Tom with a star on his cheek stood out. He was standing in the crowd of cats. Beside him was a blue-grey she cat with another star on her and a dark tabby Tom with the same star on him, and sitting beside that Tom was a ginger she cat with the star AGAIN! Suddenly, though she never knew this before, she knew all their names! Firestar was the one with the fiery pelt, bluestar was the one with the blue-grey pelt, bramblestar, the dark tabby, squirrelstar, the ginger tabby! And they were all thunderclan leaders. Soon cats began to appear, cats riverkit knew... Her mother, her father, her brother, some cats she didn't know, and her father's clan leader... She tried to run, but her paws were glued to the ground, she tried to scream, but nothing came out of her mouth. And then they all faded away, and all was dark.
Riverkit woke up with a start. She woke her brother as well, they found a large leaf and put their nests in it. They set off to gather berries and find home. Riverkit grabbed some blueberries and blackberries in her jaws and put them on the leaf. After searching again for home, they settled down to sleep in an old fox den.
That night riverkit had another dream.
She was was walking around, but all she could hear was screaming, wailing. Pain. She turned a corner and saw, her mother, dead. On the floor. Dead. Another scream. All went black.
Riverkit woke up that morning and packed up their nests. They set off to gather more berries. They padded over to a bush. That's when the smell hit her," The smell! Darkkit! The SMELL! We're in dad's territory! We're HOME!" Riverkit cried. They ran into the territory, quickly finding the hollow tree. When the got there, something felt wrong.. They peered in. Their father was there... But he was hunched over.. Crouched over... Crouched over a body... A dead body.. The dead body... Of their mother.
