I watched out the bay window of my little house. The anxiety of what this day would bring put butterflies in my stomach. Michael had said to wear something nice. The weather was beautiful and the rain had subsided. It was hard to find the right outfit for today. I must have changed ten times before I settled on a white floral sun dress, which made my pale skin almost translucent, but it complemented my dark brown hair that fell to my shoulders.
As I sat waiting, I twisted the curls of my hair around my fingers. I imagined what Michael had planned. It had to be special, and I had a feeling it was what I had been waiting for... a proposal. I was lost in thought when I heard the distinct sound of his old Chevy truck. There he was. I could tell he was nervous by the way he paused for a few moments before stepping out of the truck. My heart jumped when he got out. He looked so handsome in his button-up white shirt and black jeans. His light brown hair blowing in the cool breeze. He swiped his hair back out of his face and looked up to see me watching him. He waved and gave me a sweet smile.
I jumped off the couch and ran to the door.
"Hello," he handed me a white rose.
"Hi."
I could barely breathe at the sight of his perfect face. This man I traveled across the country to be with when I had seen him here on vacation. We had met at this cute little bar, and I knew he was the one so many months ago. Now, here he was standing in front of me.
"Are you ready to go?"
"I think so..what are we doing again?"
I had to know it was killing me.
"Never said, and you'll just have to wait."
He led me to the passenger side of his truck.
"Sorry, it's not fancier, but it runs," he smirked.
"I love this truck," it was him, and anything he loved I did as well. "We have a lot of memories in this truck, so it's perfect to me."
He smiled at me, that sweet smile that always melted my heart.
I hopped up in the cab, and we were off. He drove up to the shore where there was this white gazebo covered in lights and white flowers. I looked over at him and couldn't believe how wonderful this man was and how lucky I had been to be a part of his world. We pulled up, and I could see a dressed table inside the gazebo. My heart was pounding so hard. This had to be the night. He opened the door for me and took my hand to help me out. The sun was just setting behind the hills, and the lights on the gazebo began to twinkle.
He had made this beautiful moment, and after we ate, he pulled me to dance. Then, before I knew it, he was down on one knee. "Yes, forever, yes."
