I sat in my seat to go to Camp Ever Green. Maddie was sitting beside me, staring out the window like she was looking for something. I turned and looked at Maddie, "Maddie, do you wanna be my tent mate for camp?" Maddie turned and looked at me, "Sure, I guess we do have to stick together, plus i'm sure no one will be in a tent with you." I glared at Maddie, knowing what she meant. "Okay. . . Truth or dare, Maddie?" She grinned, "truth." I chuckled a little, and raised an eyebrow, "Do you like anyone?" I saw her blush a little as she tapped me lightly, "No one so far. . ." I chuckled again, "Truth or dare, Em." I snorted slightly, and I whispered to her, "I'm a dragon, more importantly, i'm a dragoness. I don't have feelings." That's what I told myself, anyway. "Say, where is Alex?" Maddie asked, "Probably on the boy's bus, Maddie." I scoffed and looked out the window.
"I miss flying. . ." I mumbled under my breath. I grabbed my phone and started to text Maddie.
Maddie, I have a question. What would you do if I went rouge?
Maddie didn't respond, but she just took my arm and forced me to look at her. "I would never forgive myself, Em." I saw her eyes glare at me. "Anyway, I've been meaning to show you something for awhile, Em." I saw her go into her bag and bring out a book. She blew the dust off the book cover. "This is about our mom. . ." I glared at her. "You know we don't share the same mother, right Maddie? My mother was a dra-" I cut myself off, and continued, "Umm, my mother died before you were born." I saw her eyes growing with terror as I almost made that simple mistake. We were silent for the rest of the drive. Until I texted her.
I'm thinking about going rouge.
I saw her face lit up with terror as she looked at her phone. Heat face filled with terror as she read my text.
WHAT!?
I started to text back, but she turned her phone off and glared at me. "It's not about the rules, you, gray, no. None of that. It's because of where T put me, Maddie." T was a shortened phrase for Talon. She eyed me wearily, "Did they put you in Gila?" I simply stared. "No. . . they didn't." I mouthed the word, Viper. Her mouth gaped open. "V-V-Viper!?" She whispered. I just simply nodded. We went silent for the rest of the ride, hopefully staying that way.
