Chapter 7 // The Void
Can I just say that I absolutely despise Garrett right now? Every year, he holds a huge party two weeks before his birthday to celebrate it with anyone who knows about the party. Stella always went and I always stayed at home. It was always a costume party since his birthday fell within a couple days of Halloween. But to deter his parents away from the suspicion of having a party and to allow others to host ones for Halloween, he held it early. Last year, I finished Allegiant in two hours, the time it took for the party to start and finish. At least until the cops came and started to go bonkers and arrest anyone that stepped foot outside of the house who had even the tiniest amounts of booze in their system.
And hey. Books over booze?
Definitely booze.
JUST KIDDING.
But now? She threatened me by saying that she wouldn't buy me the new Harry Potter book if I didn't go. Plus, she guilt-tripped me with a costume that she designed with her creative mind and nimble fingers. No doubt she'd ditch an Ivy League for a design school.
Personally, I found it admiring. Kids were constantly chucked into our school, like a factory that only produced Ivy Leaguers. Stella was a mold breaker, a trend setter, and the only place she could channel it was fashion. And she was pretty damn good at what she did.
"You ready weirdo?" Stella asks as she knocks on my door, dressed in a perfectly made corset with the letter 'A' on the front. She wanted to be Olive from Easy A and wanted me to be Todd, who donned a woodchuck costume and I vehemently turned her down.
Naturally, she wanted to complete the look, so she forced Xavier down into a mascot costume she got off of Amazon and they were going to ride into the party on a lawn mower. And, to be honest, it was really cute. Although the lawn mower he borrowed was one that was barely working and kept on puttering in random directions.
"Come on! You look cute!" Stella drags me out of my bathroom while I'm still trying to shimmy into a pair of tights.
"No I don't. I look ridiculous." Frowning, I look at the costume she begged me to wear, one that she had made herself. Of course, being the awesome best friend I am, I couldn't refuse, so I ended up going with whatever she designed.
Which just so happened to be the costume from Black Swan, when Natalie Portman's crazy 'twin' enters the show in a black feathery dress and starts dancing. It would look good if I had her facial structure and the ballerina posture, but I end up looking like a sad, bruised banana, slouched and sulking.
"You definitely need the makeup." She digs into a large pouch and pulls out white powder and really light foundation.
There's also some highlighter, which is supposed to make you shine and glow and be 'fan-freaking-tastic' (as Stella said).
"WOAH WOAH WOAH. I am not Edward Cullen." I grab her wrist, trying to distance the make up away from my face. I feel like I'll just end up looking like I spilled flour everywhere and I'm trying to avoid further embarrassment.
