dancing in the rain at midnight seemed to be the new routine. it was day three of the rain, and it came crashing down onto the pavement. the rain was supposed to continue on for another week and a half, every night. i didn't mind. the first night, i sat down on the patio of my apartment and waited for the first drop to fall. i looked up to the sky until a small drop of water fell from my forehead down to my chin and trailed down my neck. i smiled and put my ipod on shuffle and set it under an old hat my ex boyfriend gave me last summer.

my neighbors must have thought i was crazy, they were probably laughing their heads off as they looked out the window and a strange girl was stupidly happy and making the biggest fool of herself. i continued the next night and this night sitting on my porch waiting for the raindrops to begin free falling from the heavens. i would stand up and run where i could hear the music faintly playing from under the hat and i would throw my arms up and splash in the puddles. my long brown hair would be black and soaked with the water and my clothes would go see through but i didn't care, because i was so genuinely happy.

i heaved a breath and laughed, throwing myself down on the grass, which was flooding with rain and dirt and someone else's childhood memories. i could feel it tickling my arms and pushing against my wet pink t shirt. i never felt this good, this free, this exposed.

i just closed my eyes tight and lied there for a few minutes. i thought about nothing but how i was finally pulling it together. i pushed off the ground and wiped the dirt off my legs. i went into my apartment smiling. life is so amazing.
