A/N: This will be a high school AU, so please understand that regardless of the age of Jared and/or the reader (obviously you) in real life, the characters will be seniors in high school. Just wanted to make that clear cause I know some people might get kind of confused. Enjoy the story!

Your POV
It was weird for you, running for prom queen along side Jared, your boyfriend (for prom king of course). Yes, people did think that you two were "goals," but most of the time, you two just saw yourselves as the normal, everyday couple. Most of the time, you joked how cliché you two were. After some time being bugged by your friends to run for King and Queen, the two of you couldn't resist trying. At least it would get your friends to stop asking you to.

Tonight, would be prom night. You two would get all dressed up, get in the limo his parents insisted he rent, and show up looking glamorous as hell together. Your dress was a sea-foam green color, with a sequin detailed bodice, no sleeves, and a frilly material for the lower portion of the dress. Naturally, Jared matched you with a black suit and sea-foam detailing.

When the limo driver dropped you and Jared off at your high school, the two of you intertwined your fingers and strutted proudly into the gym where the dance would be held. You took in the scenery as you entered the large gym packed full of teenagers in heels and suits, dancing to music, and sipping on any form of alcohol they could sneak in behind the sets of bleachers against the gym wall. The decorations shimmered and the deejay blared music from his stand. You wondered how that man didn't go deaf from how loud the music must've been up next to the speakers.

As you took your surroundings in, you remembered third grade you sitting on the playground fantasizing to your friends about how you'd go to prom with the most amazing guy. You then saw fifth grade you saying you'd never get asked to prom. Then the image of seventh grade you rolled around. You wanted to sound cool, so you told people that prom was "overrated" and "a waste of a night." You remembered freshman you next. The first day of school, when you strolled into homeroom and took the last seat available, not knowing the fellow freshman you sat next to would one day be your prom date. Reality strikes you when Jared taps on your shoulder.

"You ready for pictures?" He asks, pointing towards the on-site photographer who put way too much into trying to make you smile. You already were smiling - because of Jared, of course - but man if that woman didn't try to make you smile more.

"What were you thinking about just now, babe?" Jared questions before the woman is ready to take a picture.

"Oh, just younger versions of me, and the evolution of my prom fantasies. And then, well, the day we met." He smiles at that. Just as the woman went to take a picture, he bent down and planted a kiss on your lips. The woman snapped the picture and let out a small "aww" before the two of you walked off to enjoy the night.

After a few dances, the school principle walked up on stage. She took a mic from the deejay and began to speak.

"Good evening, everyone. I would like to start off by asking that alcohol is strictly prohibited on the premises. If you're caught, we have no choice but to kick you out. Okay," she smiled slightly, "and now for the announcing of our Prom King and Queen! Here to announce, our Student Council Association president, Sarah Farsworth!" The sea of teens began to clap as Sarah approached the center of the stage with two envelopes in her hands.

"Hi everyone! In my hands are the names two lucky people who get to be crowned Prom King and Queen for this year's senior class!" Another round of clapping and screaming went on, "if we could please have our nominees join me on stage, I'd like to begin with recognizing all who ran for these titles!"

Jared and I interlocked hands again, and ascended up the stairs onto the stage set up in the gym. Sarah went through the list of people on stage, and then proceeded to announce the winners.

"The Prom King and Queen titles go to... drumroll please!" A live drummer who'd just set up on stage to perform with his band after the reveal began drumming wildly. The crowd cheered and chanted names.

"Jared Leto and Y/N! Congrats you two!"
The two of you stepped forward and awaited the crowns to be placed atop your heads. The crowd started chanting "kiss, kiss, kiss," and to be that couple you did just that. The two of you stood there and kissed for what felt like forever before Sarah spoke into the mic again.

"Do either of you have a speech you'd like to share?"

"Yeah," you speak up and take the mic Sarah was holding out to you,"hi. So when I was younger, I felt different ways about prom. In third grade, I wanted to go with someone. I didn't care who, as long as it was someone. In fifth grade, I didn't think I was good enough to go with anyone. In seventh grade, I was going through my 'scene phase,'" you make quotation marks with your hands and cringe a little,"I told people prom was pointless, and that I wasn't going. In freshman year, I changed my mind again. That year, I made a new friend. A best friend. That year, on the first day of school, I met my future prom date and boyfriend, and I would never change that for the world. Now, I like this crown, so I'm not gonna break it apart all Mean Girls style, but I want to say that this honor does go out to everyone. Wether you're here alone, with friends, or with that special someone," you look over at Jared, who smiles at you,"this title goes to all of you. I hope everyone meets someone as special as I have one day. Thank you so much guys. This means the world to me." Jared claps for you as you turn back to him and plant yet another kiss on his lips. The crowd goes crazy before the two of you head back onto the floor, and the live band starts up with a slow dance. Jared holds his hand out to you."

"Y/N, the Prom Queen to my Prom King, may I have this dance?"

"Of course," you grin and take his hand. You rest your head on his chest as the two of you dance the night away. Coming to prom might've been the best decision you'd made when it came to the topic. You didn't regret coming at all.
