Day 4:
It's done,
It's over with,
I kissed a stranger,
And I kinda liked it...
There I sat, staring at the black letters scrawled out on the palm of my left hand. I already had them memorized, but I couldn't bring myself to wash it off yet. When I took my shower last night, I didn't use my left hand at all, just so that the messy hand writing wouldn't fade from where it sat on my hand.
“Are you just going to sit there staring at it all day, or are you gonna text the guy?” Buck said from the kitchen. I looked over at the crew as they bumped around in the kitchen, trying to prepare breakfast for us. Candy was in charge of making the toast, Claire was in charge of the eggs, and Buck was pouring the orange juice. I was supposed to be making the pancakes, but the kitchen was too small for all of us.
I looked at the number again, and then at my crappy cellphone that sat in my other hand. Should I do it? My brain said no, that it wasn't a smart idea. It was supposed to be a kiss and run. But my heart screamed yes. It yearned for my to type in his number, maybe even call him, just to hear his deep, breath taking voice great me.
But I knew better than to do that. I always froze up when I called someone. I could barely call my grandma over the phone, let alone a guy who I didn't even know.
Then the next thing I know, my phone is being snatched out of my hand, and Claire was typing in the number. I scrabbled to get the phone from her, but before I could retrieve it from her clutches, I heard the tell tale sign that a message was sent. A few seconds later, my phone went off and a wicked smile came over Claire's face.
“Lover boy wants to see ya again,” Candy said as she looked over Claire's shoulder.
My stomach gathered butterflies as I thought about see him again. Would it be awkward. It was always awkward when ever I was alone with a guy. Take my ex for example. I broke up with him because when ever we were alone, we never talked. Like, at all. What if Kit found me boring. After all, he seemed to have a thing for cars, and I had a thing for breaking them.
You never know, that little voice inside my mind said. You could actually have something in common with him.
“Come on Kara,” Buck said as he balance his plate of food on his hand. It looked like they had forgotten about the pancakes. That was fine by me.
“What if it ends up not working out?” I asked, biting my pinky nail.
Claire batted my hand away from my mouth and pointed a finger at me. “You have to at least try,” she insisted. “Plus, if it doesn't work out, oh well. He lives thirteen hours away from us. You will never have to see him again. He wont be able to slam a door in my face.”
I nodded and took the phone from Claire's hand. My stomach dropped when I saw that she had replied to him.
'Sure, when do you wanna meet up?' she had sent.
'How about tonight at 7?' he replied.
Tonight, I was going to meet up with a total strange, whom I had kissed just the other day. Was it just me, or was the room getting a little smaller?
“You planned to kiss a complete stranger while on this trip, but you didn't pack anything cute?” Candy scalded me as she and Claire rummaged through my duffel bag, looking for the perfect outfit for tonight.
I shrugged my shoulders and looked down at the number again. Maybe I should wash it off? But I was already attached to it.
“Wash that damn number off your hand!” Claire demanded as she pulled out a blue and white stripped thermal shirt. She looked at it then threw it in a pile with my long johns and my jeans with the bedazzled butt pockets. I cringed at the fact that I had to wear so many layers up here. I knew that more clothes were going to be added to the pile before it was time for me to go.
I listed to Claire, Candy and Buck as they picked out my outfit while I washed my hands. I watched as the number slowly faded away, until finally, it wasn't there anymore.
“Done,” I announced as I walked back into Buck's room. I stood there in shock as I looked at the disaster that awaited me.
In a span of maybe three minutes, they had thrown everything that was in my duffel bag onto the floor of his room, and they all three sat on his bed, surrounded by several different articles of clothing.
“We can't decide between blue or pink,” Claire told me as she pointed to the two outfits they had picked out.
“Blue,” I insisted, picking up the outfit and began to put it on.
“But I still have to do you hair and makeup,” Candy whined and I shook my head.
I pulled my straightener out and plugged it in so that it could heat up. While it was heating up, I pulled out my makeup and began putting on, until the straightener beeped at me, letting me know it was done.
After straightening my hair, I slid a black head band on and then grabbed my leather backpack to the bed post.
“I'm ready,” I announced as I waited for them to take me to the little mechanic shop.
Kit had wanted to pick me up, but insisted that I would meet him at the mechanic shop that was only fifteen minutes away from where Buck lived.
“Are you sure you wanna do this?” Claire asked me. I glared at her, mad that she was just now asking me this.
“I might as well, after all this work,” I told her. She nodded and walked to the front door. I followed her out to the car, and began taking deep breathes as she started up the car and drove to the shop.
As we pulled, I spotted Kit sitting in the little office, his head hung and his knee bumping up and down nervously. For some reason, this made me more confident. As I stepped out of the car, a smile made its way to my face. Kit looked up as I walked in the office, a nervous smile on his face.
I smiled at him and held my hand out.
“You ready?” I asked, raising my eyebrow at him.
“Shouldn't I be the one asking you this?”
“Actually, you do realize that its the males that should be nervous, right? After all, it is the female that picks the mate,” I bladded. I blushed when I realized that I was nervously rambling, proving that I was more nervous than I let show.
Thankfully, my rambling made Kit smile, and my stomach tighten at the sight. My goodness he was gorgeous.
“So where are we going?” I asked as I followed him out to a truck that was parked out back, behind the shop.
“It's a surprise,” he told me as he opened the door for me.
“Well what ever it is, it better be good,” I told him.
He just smiled and got in the truck. He started up the truck, pulled out of the parking lot and heading the direction as where the car had blow its tire. I swear, if he takes me to that freaking spot, I will kick him in the balls.
But half way there, he turned off down a long, snow covered dirt road. A sign announcing that we were entering Sway Back Ranch hung above the road, and my eyes widened as I saw a large ranch house appear in front of us.
“Welcome to my house.”
