Day 5

It is way to cold here in Maine. This state needs to be shut down and forgotten. It is below zero in the middle of the day, and in order for me to walk outside comfortably, I must put on five layers of clothing, not including my snow pants.

My boots were already soaked all the way through and my lips were chapped, even though I kept on applying lip balm. Not only that, but my skin was dry no matter how much lotion I put on.

So I am pretty much miserable.

The heater is on full blast, yet I still cannot feel my toes. Buck was annoying me and I was ready to go back home. I felt like any second now I would go insane if I didn't do something.

"Kara, you wanna go snow boarding?" Claire asked as she came down from playing video games with Candy and Buck. I wasn't one for video games, so when they turned on the Xbox, I went downstairs to watch some strange day time show with Buck's parents.

I looked over at Claire and saw that she had already put on all of her clothes, and I knew that if I didn't say yes right away, she would annoy me to the point that I said yes. It was a character trait that ran in the family I guess.

"Come on Kara, you know you wanna go," Candy said as she went shuffling down the stairs, looking like an idiot. They both stood there swaddled in fluffy jackets and snow pants, none of their limbs able to together the other.

I groaned and got out of my spot on the blow up mattress and went to put on my snow clothing, which wasn't much. I lived in Florida, and there wasn't much room to put the few jackets that I had, so I had to leave behind a few. I now, of course, regretted that, but I couldn't turn back time.

A few hours later, and a lot of sludging through fluffy bits of waist deep snow, we finally arrived at what the girl at the coffee shop said was the best place to go snow boarding. Or if you were me, to go sledding, since they didn't have enough snow boards for all of us. It was a good thing I didn't really want to go snow boarding anyways.

After a few hours of sweating my ass of in the three layers of clothes I had to put on in order to not get frost bite, I finally got to properly sit down underneath the tree on top of the hill that we were using to slide down.

As I sat down, I watched as the three stooges made fools out of themselves, attempting to make snow balls out of the sand like snow. It was so dry and cold up here that the snow wouldn't even stick together. A few people had joined us up on the hill, making a down out of the what Buck said was the warmest day so far.

I knew at that point that this trip had been futile. Or not, I guess. I got to kiss a guy. I got my wish. I guess I just wanted more. I wanted someone that would make me fall head over heels in love with them. I wanted love at first sight.

But now I knew that that would never happen. Love is something that happens over time. You have to be around that person, and pick up on their habits. You have to see the way that they eat, and the way that they interact with kids. You have to meet their parents and put a few feet inside your mouth before you realize that they are worthy of this precious thing called love. Love isn't something that you can just through around. Its fragile, and has to be handled with care.

"Hey Kara, snap out of it," Claire yelled as she snapped her fingers in front of my face. I looked up at her, then looked around to find that an abundance of people had found their way to this hill, and I felt as if I were at the springs down in the Florida on a nice sunny summer day. Except that I had lost feeling in my toes, and no longer could I feel my nose.

"Yeah," I mumbled as I attempted to use the tree to wiggle up, in order to stand up.

"I think I found a cute one," she said as she nudged my shoulder. I groaned and rolled my eyes. I didn't want a cute one. I didn't want anyone. I just wanted to go back home to Florida, where it was 85 degrees outside, where I could properly oogle at guys and not wonder if they were actually fit underneath the thirty layers of clothes.

I voiced my opinion on this and then leaned against the tree in my anger. I crossed my arms over my chest like a little kid who was refused a toy.

"Why such the long face?" someone said from beside me. I looked over and took a double take.

Yep, this must have been the cutie that Claire was talking about. Not my type, but still cute. He was very much the punk rock type of guy, not something I usually would go for.

"Nothing, I just got dragged out here by my gazillion layers of snow clothes, just to sit here and watch my sister and her friends have fun. Of course, they're probably high off their asses, so they have an advantage over me."

The rocker dude kinda just nodded his head and looked around. I looked around with him, and found that the majority of the people here were about my age.

"Why are there some many teenagers," I mumbled under my breath.

"There's a private school just down the road. We all come down here on Saturdays to play around. There's not much to do in town."

"Yeah, I noticed that," I said as I snorted.

"You from around here?" he asked, leaning against a bare spot of the tree.

I shook my head and skooted away from him. I wasn't much for people in my personal space.

"You wanna come to a party tonight? It's not going to be that big. Just a little get together. My friends would like you."

"You haven't even talked to me for more then three minutes. For all you know, I could be an axe murderer, and I am now planning on coming for your party, Scream style."

"Fair enough," Rocker- Dude retorted.

"Hey, Kara, time to go!" I heard Claire call from the bottom of the hill.

I turned to Rocker-Dude and nodded.

"So you coming?" he called as I made my way down the hill.

I turned around and reotrted, "I don't even know your name!"

"It's Matt," he called back, "So now you have to come! Nine o'clock. Be there or be square!"
