"Mabel! Hurry up! I'm not gonna wait here all day for you." Dipper called at his sister from his black Convertible. He looked at himself in the mirror, his flap hat covering his birthmark and his new scar across his right temple. Wendy's old hat came in handy for hiding scars. But it did not come in handy in the heat.
Mabel came out of their motel room with her black backpack and her black hoodie. She had stopped wearing sweaters a while ago. When Dipper asked her why she just shrugged and said she grew out of them. Mabel put her bag in the back and sat in the passenger's seat.
"So, Dip, you ready to head back? You did call Soos to let him know we were coming right?" She asked him.
"Yes, Mabel. I did. He said he even got the attic ready for us, just like the old days." Dipper said. He put the car in reverse and backed out of the motel's parking lot and started driving to Gravity Falls, Oregon.
They drove for about an hour, listening to Indie music and laughing every time a "Love God" song came on.
"Hey, Dipper, do you think... I mean, do you think our work will find us there?" Mabel asked her brother. Dipper sighed.
"Yes, Mabel, I think it most definitely will. I mean think about it. Gravity Falls is such a weird, supernatural place. And you remember Bill. He was obviously a trickster or a demon. And that means he is not truly gone. Not until we kill him properly."
"But he didn't have a physical form! How could we have killed him properly?" Mabel asked.
Dipper just shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe he had a form the entire time and it was all a trick. I mean think about it. That one summer felt like four years?" Dipper said. He had a point. They had experienced tricksters before and they were handfuls. The twins had only managed to kill one in their three years of hunting.
"Do you think we should tell Soos and Melody?" Mabel asked. Dipped hesitated for a minute.
"No. We don't tell them. It will only make it more dangerous for them. We can keep our tools in the car and bring only the basics to the attic. And if they ask us what we do for a job then we tell them... we tell them..." Dipper stopped. He felt a sinking feeling in his gut. The thought of lying to his friends... his family... broke his heart, but he had to do it.
Mabel saw her brother frown and knew what he was thinking. She put her hand on his shoulder.
"We tell them we are writers... for a travel column." She said, trying to put on a smile for Dipper.
"Who ever said I was the smarter twin is wrong." Dipper said as they passes a sign that said "50 miles to Gravity Falls".
Mabel laughed. "Thanks, Brosef." They rode the rest of the way in silence.
Finally, they got to town. Dipper rolled down the roof of the car and slowed down, taking in the sight of the familiar city. Mabel looked around and beamed.
"Dipper, look!" She yelled as she pointed to arcade. Outside the arcade Nate was washing the windows. As they drove by Dipper honked and the twins waved at their old friend who waved back.
They soon arrived at the shack. It was great seeing the place. And they finally got the S to stay up! Dipper pulled up to the front where they saw Stan's car.
"Dipper! You didn't tell me Stan would be here!" Mabel said as she got out of the car.
"I-I had no idea!" Dipper said. They grabbed their bags and ran up to the door. They took a deep breathe and walked into the gift shop, making the bell ring. Soos came into the gift shop dressed in Stan's old suit.
"Welcome to the Mystery Shack, how can I help-?" He began to say, but stopped when he saw the twins. "Dipper! Mabel!" Soos yelled and ran towards them. He scooped up the twins in a huge hug and squeezed them hard.
"Uh, Soos..., can't breathe!" Dipper said.
"Oh, sorry." Soos put them down. "I just misses you dudes so much!"
"We missed you too! Where is Melody?" Said Mabel after she caught her breathe. As if waiting for a cue, Melody walked in. More like waddled in. Melody was clearly pregnant.
"Right here!" She said, rubbing her stomach. "Me and Stan here."
"Your pregnant?!" Mabel screamed. She dropped her bag and ran over to Melody. "How come you didn't tell us?!"
Melody laughed. "We thought we would tell you when you got here." Mabel continued to fuss over Melody as Dipper looked at Soos.
"I, uh, saw Stan's car out front. Is he...?" Dipper asked. Soos smiled.
"Stan and Ford are out on a trip right now, they left their car with me, but they come back tomorrow." He said. Dipper nodded. All of a sudden there was a scratching at door. As if an instinct Dipper and Mabel turn towards the door, their faces stern and their hands ready to grab their hidden weapons. Melody laughed.
"Sorry, if that scared you two." She went over and opened the door as a full grown pig came running in.
Mabel immediately relaxed and smiled. "WADDLES!" she yelled. The pig ran towards her and knocked her over, sniffing her face like a dog. "Oh man I missed you!" She said. Dipper remembered that they had to keep Waddles here when they started hunting. Their parents didn't want to keep him. Mabel looked so happy to see him again. He had not seen his sister this happy in a long time. With Mabel smiling and Soos and Melody laughing, Dipper felt a feeling he had not for six years. He felt at home.
