Lily's POV
Jane Howard.
The girl who was making out with Ethan last night.
She was sitting on the chair eyeing me with curiosity.
"Hi, you must be Ruby's friend?" She asked, flashing a surprisingly cute dimpled smile.
"Y-yes." I stuttered, shocked by how nice she acted. Maybe I was hoping she will ended up being bitchy so that I can openly hate her. Her beautiful looks pissed me off because while I was wearing loose fitting clothes and my shorts are almost falling, she looked like a princess in her long, silky white dress. Her hazel eyes glinted in the sunlight and despite not wearing make up, her skin was smooth without any signs of zits. I on the other hand, I could feel my pimple mark under my eye becoming itchier.
Ruby eyed me carefully, as if sensing my discomfort. She pulled the chair beside her.
"Here, Sit. There's your breakfast. Jane made it specifically for us. " She said. I restrained myself from frowning. Why does she have to be so kind?
I sat on the chair and eyed the plate in front of me. Sunny side up eggs: 70 calories, 1 slice of bacon is 43 calories but since I see three slices then that means it's 129 calories all and all. A slice of white bread is equivalent to 94 calories.
All in all if I consume all of this then I will consume 293 calories for breakfast. I could feel the bile rising from my throat at that thought. I picked at the egg with a fork.
"You don't like it?" Jane asked, looking at me worriedly. I bit my lip.
Smile,Lily, Smile.
"No, it looks delicious. Thank you for preparing this for me." I said. I cut a small piece of the egg whites and force myself to eat it. When I looked up, Jane was beaming at me.
"I'm glad you liked it." She said sweetly. Upon closer look, I noticed that the color of her eyes were not hazel. It was amber, like melting, warm gold. She really was too pretty, no wonder Ethan liked her. The girl that was boldly touching him the night before was so different from this girl. It was as if all the confidence that she had was drained in the morning. It was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
"You were the girl that was with Ethan last night, right?" I asked. Her smile suddenly disappeared from her face. She looked down and picked at her half-finished food.
"You saw that, huh?" She said with a dry laugh. She looked up at me and her eyes seemed to drown from sadness.
"Yes. You were with him." You were fucking making out in front of us!
She sighed and looked at me with determined eyes. "I can trust you, right?" she asked.
I shook my head. "Honey, you can't trust anyone." I told her. She laughed and shook her head.
"Well, Fuck it. I'll tell you anyway since you're here. I trust you because my best friend seemed to be taken with you. Ruby, if your girlfriend tried to babble then shut her up will you?" She said.
At the corner of my eye, I heard Ruby sigh.
"She's not my girlfriend. I already told you that a couple of times before she came here." She half-whined.
Jane giggled. "You don't have to say anything, Ruby. I'm glad you're getting over her. You need to live and not hide behind a ghost." She said.
I looked at Ruby questioningly as she glared at the brunette girl. "Suit yourself." She said coldly. She took her fork and continued eating.
