●Part One- Setting the Scene●

         

[Ae Sook's POV]

*14 Years Ago*

"Lady Ae Sook, please sit still and let me finish doing your hair" one of our court ladies said pulling me back onto the seat so that she could do my hair. Once my hair is done I will be joining my parents on our weekly trip to the markets. After a few moments of sitting and waiting patiently my hair was finally done and it was time to leave.

I walked out of my bedroom to see my mother and father standing near the fountain in the middle of the courtyard waiting for me, I walked over to them and gave them a big smile.

"Ready sweetheart?" my father says holding my small left hand, I nod as we start walking towards the markets which aren't far from our home.

After the short walk we finally arrived at the markets, Father walked off to see his friends while Mother and I walked around looking at the different material that could be made into clothing. "Ae Sook, I think your friend Prince Baek-ah is here" My mother giggled as Baek-ah walked towards us with a big smile on his face, he also had his drawing book and ink in his hands.

"Your Highness" I said as I bowed in politeness.

"Ae Sook" Baek-ah yelled giving me a hug  "Jung is coming soon" he said sitting down on the rocks near the stalls, I walked over and sat down with him as Prince Jung walked over and sat with us.

"Baek-ah has been drawing you again" Jung giggles as Baek-ah grabs out his drawing book and starts showing me all of the drawings he has done since the last time I saw him.

"AE SOOK, PRINCES RUN HIDE" My mother screams as many other ladies start screaming. We quickly got up off the rock and ran as fast as we would to get away from the area but close enough to see what was going on.

I looked out towards where the screaming was coming from to see masked men using their swords and killing whoever stood in their way. I saw something no child should ever see.. I saw my parents get murdered. The masked men finally left after there was no one left and the king's army showed up. "Is there any survivors?" One of the men yell out, Baek-ah, Jung and myself quickly get up and run towards the soldier. I had tears streaming from my face as I saw my parents laying lifeless on the ground hand in hand. "Prince Baek-ah, Prince Jung what are you doing here?" The man asks bowing to the young boys.

"We came to see our friend" they replied in unison.

"Whats your name young lady?" the soldier says kneeling down and getting to my height.

"Lee Ae Sook" I choked as tears were still streaming down my face.

"Where are your parents?" he asked sympathetically as he can tell that I saw what happened, I wiped my eyes and walked over to my parents who were covered in blood. I kneeled down beside them "Eomma, Appa" I cried.

"You are General Lee's daughter?" He asked in shock, as I nodded through the tears.

"He was having a day off to spend the day with my Eomma" I said holding onto my father's hand. I looked up to see Prince Yo walking in the distance along with some other people that I didn't recognize.

"Ae Sook" He yelled walking quickly over to me but stopped as soon as he saw my parents laying lifeless on the ground in front of him. "General Lee, Lady Jiyeon" He said falling onto his knees "Ae Sook, I am sorry for your loss" Prince Yo says getting up from his knees and started walking over to me, helping me stand up before getting to my height pulling me in for a hug. "I will watch over you like your father would've wanted me to" He said pulling away standing up.

After a few weeks life was starting to look a little brighter, at 4 years old you don't know much different, Lady Ji-Min says it was their time to go and that they will be looked after. I believe her since I didn't know anything different.

After a while Prince Yo and Lady Ji-Min started to treat me like their own daughter, I felt like I had parents again. "Ae Sook, can we talk?" Prince Yo said sitting me down at his work desk as Lady Ji-min stood next to him "What would you say if we told you there will be another child around good?" Prince Yo said with a big smile.

"I think It would be a good idea" I replied with a smile now thinking about how fun it would be around here with another person.

"Good because Lady Ji-Min is pregnant" He said looking at his wife with love plastered in his eyes, he looks happy to finally have a child of his own.

Later that day we went to the palace to tell Yo's parents about the pregnancy, they were all happy but told them to keep it a secret since nothing had being going right for the royal family since my father passed away.

*Present*

"Lady Ae Sook" I hear as I am sitting in the field full of flowers, I turn around to see Ryu-won walking towards me. Ryu-won is a court lady who works for Prince Yo but has been working with me for a few months now, she has made sure that all of my studies are well and that I am doing everything correct and not disappointing Prince Yo and Lady Ji-Min.

"Prince Yo would like to see you in the library" she announced as she stood in front of me. I nodded and started heading back to the house to see what Prince Yo wanted.

I arrived in the library to find Prince Yo sitting at his desk, writing something down on the paper with his quill. "You wanted to see me?" I mumbled hoping that he could understand me.

"Yes, my brother is coming to stay and the servants are scared of him, would you be able to see him to his room?" He replied, I nodded and bowed before leaving the room to go find his brother. I wonder which prince it is.
