Settling into your new life with Dick took surprisingly little effort. You complimented each other so well that it was only natural for you to feel right at home with him. Life was smooth sailing until you started getting sick just a few weeks after your first night with Dick. You thought you had just caught the flu or something but then it didn't go away. Dick caught on to what was wrong with you before you did.
Dick was holding you after you had sprinted to the bathroom in the middle of the night. He held your hair back and rubbed your back soothingly as your stomach emptied itself. When your stomach calmed itself you curled into Dick's arms and he carried you back to bed.
"[Y/N]," He said hesitantly, his arms still wrapped securely around you.
"Yeah, Dick?" You murmured against his neck. Your eyes were heavy and your stomach ached but all you wanted to do was sleep and never wake up again.
"Is it possible that we somehow - that you're ... pregnant?" Dick stuttered quietly. Your entire body tensed up as you started to do the math in your head. You didn't respond to him for the longest time and you could cut the growing tension in the room with a knife.
"Sweet Jesus." You groaned when you realized that Dick may very well be right in his suspicions. You immediately jumped out of bed and dragged Dick to closest store that sold home pregnancy tests. You didn't care if it was in the middle of the night, you need your questions answered.
When you found a store that was actually open the two of you made a beeline to the family planning section of the store and gathered multiple pregnancy tests into your arms. As quick as you arrived into the store you were heading to the check out with the tests in hand. Dick stopped at the end of the aisle and added a box of condoms to the pile of boxes in his arms.
"Dick!" You said with an incredulous arch of your brow.
"What? We're almost out!" He defended.
"Don't you think that's probably the least of our problems right now?" You ask waving one of the boxes in your hand.
"It still doesn't hurt to be safe." He shrugged. You rolled your eyes but continued to the checkout. Dick wrapped his arms around your shoulders while the old woman at the counter gave you judgmental looks and rung up your items.
The time it took to do the tests through the time it took for the results to be finalized were some of the longest moments of your life. You had to leave the bathroom and sit on the bed to keep yourself from staring at the array of sticks on your bathroom counter. Dick sat by your side firmly holding your hand the entire time. In your anxiety you knee started to quickly bounce up and down. Dick put his hand on your knee to still it.
"[Y/N], relax. It's going to be alright. Having a kid isn't going to be the end of the world. We talked about having children eventually ... It just might happen earlier than we expected it to." Dick said comfortingly. He pressed a soft kiss on your temple and brought you into his arms. You wrapped your arms around him and buried your head in his chest, his scent comforting you more than anything.
Soon enough your phone's timer went off signalling that the results were ready. Dick gave you a reassuring look and a squeeze of your hand before he got up from the bed and walked into the bathroom to check on the tests. He reemerged from the bathroom some minutes later holding a test in his hands, his eyes glued to the results.
