school.
it was every childs' nightmare,
every childs' hell.

it takes the joy,
the urge to learn,
and morphs it into tests,
quizzes,
unneeded questions.

sometimes i wonder,
if that's all i am.

numbers,
percentages,
because that's all they teach us,
they teach us that if you can't solve this simple question,
you don't belong.

i'm snapped out of my thoughts,
when you shove me,
and i fall,
with an embarrassing thump.

then you're there,
with such a hurtful smirk,
your lackies following.

"Run! An earthquake!"
they yell,
i wince,
trying to ignore everyone's stares.

it's not funny,
i want to scream,
it'snotfunny,
it'snotfunny,
it'snotfunny.

instead,
i crack a smile.

it's better to laugh,
laugh with them,
so nobody can see,
so it'll look like,
no,
so it'll feel like,
were laughing together.

and it'll hurt less,
than knowing,
their laughing,
at you.
