Friend-Zoned

Part 1

"...Happy Birthday to you!". My mom lowers the cake to my level.

"Make a wish!", my sister screams climbing onto my bed.

I squeeze my eyes tight and try to think of a wish. I want to be with- I feel a cold breeze hit against my cheek, and began to smell the harsh smell of smoke.

I open my eyes to see my candles are blown out. I turn to my sister who's head is right by mine.

"Did you just steal my wish?" I raise a brow. My sister shakes her head and lets out a light giggle.

"Oh my god!", I playfully hit her.

"Time for cake!", my sister climbs off the bed and runs out of my room.

"Cmon Ella lets go eat cake." My mom motions me to come with her.

" I'll pass, I've got to get ready for school." I get out of bed and grab a towel. My mom frowns and walks over to me and gives me a hug.

" Happy 16th birthday!"

"Thanks mom"

I get out of the shower and began to look through my closet for something to wear.

I'll just wear my black hoodie and jeans with my white converse. Don't need to be fancy to school.

I dry my hair and begin to straighten it. I apply a few coats of mascara and do my eyebrows.

I walk downstairs, grabbed my bag and walked out the door.

"Bye I'm leaving!"

"Bye and Happy Bir-" I shut the door and begin to walk towards the bus.

I get to the bus stop and begin to look around for my friends.

Taylor? Caroline? Eth- I turn to see Ethan talking to two girls. Well it looked more as if they were talking to him.

I look down at his hands and see a blue gift bag.

That better be for me!

I run to Ethan and hug him from behind.

"Hey!" I let go of him and he faces me.

"Ella, Happy Birthday!" He gives me a quick hug and gives me the bag in his hands.

"I got it for you" I could feel my cheeks heat up.

"So what's your number Ethan???" One of the blonde haired girls who he was talking to asked.

" Oh yeah I almost forgot its-"

I quickly open the gift to see a cute fluffy brown bear. I jump in front of Ethan and the girl.

"You shouldn't have! It's so cute!" I hugged Ethan and held the bear up to his face in an effort to stop him from giving the girl his number. Ethan smiles. Which makes me go crazy inside.

" The bus is here" Ethan turns around and starts getting on the bus.

" Cmon Ella!", Ethan reaches out his hand for me to take.

I died inside.

I take his hand and climb into the bus. I look for my friends but couldn't find them. I turn to Ethan.

" Hey could I sit with you? I don't think my friends are here."

" Oh yeah." He walks past an empty seat where his friends are and we sit in back if Grayson and Nate are.

I climb in first and he sits by me. Grayson turns around and laughs.

" Are y'all like a thing now? Y'all never sit together on the bus."

" Eww NO!" Ethan says laughing. " We're just friends!" Ethan pats me on the shoulder and turns back to Grayson. Grayson looks at me and smirks.

" Yeah, we're just friends." I give a fake smile and look out the window.

Ouch. Friend-zoned and the day just started. This day is already seems like crap...

I look back to see Grayson whispering into Ethan's ear.

Ethans POV-

" Ha poor Ella." Grayson whispers into my ear.

" What? We aren't dating." I look at Ella who was now looking on her phone.

" Dude, but you know she likes you." I lay my back against the seat and look over Ella's shoulder to see what she was doing.

Back to Ella's POV-

Does he know I literally just heard everything they said?

I look up from my phone and accidental bump into Ethan's head.

Our heads we so close and our lips almost touched.

" Uhuh. Not dating or anything." Grayson turns back around and talks to Nate.

" Owww." I laugh as I raise my hand over my forehead.

" Hovering much?" I playfully push him. He bursts out laughing and holds his head.

" Sorry I just wanted to see what you were doing." He smiles and looks at my forehead.

" Do you think there will be a bruise?" I lift my hand off my face laughing.

Ethan grabs my cheek, and looks at me.
