I arrived at my band concert extra early so I had time to set up my flute and talk to my friends before we had to go on stage. My best friend Brianna was filling me in on her crush Daniel while I hardly payed attention because I was too busy watching my crush, Mitchell. She was called aside by her mom so I went to talk to one of the other flute players, Christina.
Christina saw me walking over and greeted me with a hello while being in a chipper mood which was odd. I thought maybe it was just because she was excited about the concert and being third chair this year. "Oh, there's Mitchell! I'm going to ask if we can share his food."
"Wait, do you like him?" I asked, not trying to sound selfish or rude.
"Well duh, we are dating!" Christina said back kind of snobby. She started to go on with more details but once again I wasn't paying attention. I was crushed. All this time I liked him and he already had a girlfriend. But of course it had to be Christina, I mean she was pretty and skinny and in band.
I walked away with my head down, back to my seat with my flute and pretended to go through my music. Whatever I could do to avoid anyone's gaze. Especially Mitchell's. I felt dumb and sad and alone again. Like I had no chance with anyone anymore. But it wasn't anyone's fault except my own for liking him.
"Hey Sara" Brianna said while walking over to my seat. "I just heard that Andrew and Hayley were dating. I mean I can't believe he would date her out of all these other single girls in this school!
"Yeah," I reply with a low voice. I really didn't want to talk about the happy new couple right now.
