"But I promise I will be careful Elena." I pleaded dropping to my knees. I have been asking Elena all day if I could go back to the rock.

"Not unless you let me go with you." Elena said sternly not losing her ground on her decision. I didn't want her to come because she would see Constança or worse Constança would mistrust me. After rushing the way she did something tells me she doesn't want Elena to see her. "Just Tell me Ranvir!"

"Tell you what? That I won't jump in? I promise I won't, please Elena" I plead.

"No not that. I know when you are keeping something from me. You are not telling me why you jumped in. That is so unlike you Ranvir."

I bit my lip. "I cant tell you Elena." I wanted to cry.

"I'm disappointed that you are keeping secrets from me Ranvir. You are going but you are going with me. "She folded her arms on her chest stern as ever. "I'm going to find out what is wrong. I was hoping you would have told me by now."

"I will do anything for me to go alone! Please Elena! You don't understand." My screaming caught the attention of my mother from the other room.

She quietly walked into the kitchen and stared at me while I was on my knees. She then looked at Elena with questioning eyes. "Ranvir stand up." I began to panic as I stood up. I was worried that she was going to get Elena in trouble. "Come here."

I shuffled towards her. She was staring at me right in the eyes. She looked like her usual self with her hair in a loose bun and no makeup. My mom's old self wore bright red lipstick her smile big and her eyes filled with life, not this. Elena says that my mother is just feeling a little sad these days. Slash that, months.

The argument my parents had yesterday apparently ended with my father sleeping in his bed and my mom drinking on the couch before crying herself to sleep. She will never leave him i never understood why.

"Listen to Elena, you aren't going unless it's with her." I was surprised that she sided with Elena. Although it wasn't what I expected or was in my favor a little hope glowed in my chest.

"I wouldn't mind if you could come with me instead momma" It flew out my mouth but I didn't regret it. I wanted to see Constança but I wanted to have my old mom back more.

She gave me a small soft smile but then gently shook her head no. My hopes of spending the day with my mother crushed. "Not today baby. Momma is not feeling good."

"Its okay." It wasn't okay but I said it anyways.

"Je t'aime Ranvir"

"Mhm." I gave her a sad smile and ran to my room. Leaving my mother and Elena in the kitchen.

....

Elena brought me food for lunch and dinner to my room. I didn't want to leave mostly because of my mother but also because I was planning my escape. I wasn't running away from home but I was leaving for a little bit to go see Constança. I know she might not be there but I still wanted to go check and if Elena wasn't going to let me go then this was the only option.

Almost everyone was asleep and I was starting to grab all my stuff together to go out. I first dumped all my school stuff from inside my backpack onto the bed. I threw my shoes, water bottle, and battery lit lantern into the bag. I opened my drawer and grabbed some socks and put them on. Lastly I gripped my flashlight tight to my chest and headed out the door.

I could still hear noises in Elena's room so I walked near her door to make sure she was asleep. My sock covered feet making no noise against the cold marble floor.
