Lucien was pacing through the trees in the depths of the bayou when a small cracking of a twig caught his attention.
He snapped his head to the left, following the direction of where he believed the sound to be coming from "you're a resilient one, I thought you'd have been dead by now"
Cassandra gritted her teeth, her hand clutched against the trunk of a tree, the rough bark scratching at her already dry fingers. "You should know by now I'm hard to kill"
"But you look like death" Lucien looked her up and down, the blood stained clothes, the pale skin, the chapped lips and the almost black rings cursing under her eyes. "It's made me re evaluate why I even saw anything in you"
"It's because the look doesn't suit me well" Cassandra had put on an act, a little bit, she needed to show him that she was needy, she needed to take him by surprise. "But It'll look so good on you"
"What are you doing here, Cassandra?" He slowly walked up to her "tell me before I tear your intestines from your body and force you to wear them like a scarf"
"Ooh, someone's been working on that for a while. Was that meant for Elijah? Seeing as I should really be six feet under by now" Cassandra couldn't help but taunt, it was her default setting "but you should already know I'm a spoilt girl, I always get what I want"
"And let me guess, what you want is for me to rot with the people who created me?" He asked, still walking to her
"I was going to say I just want you dead, but that sounds a little more enticing, don't you think?"
What're you waiting for, kill him. She kept thinking she should just lunge forward and rip into his chest, but she couldn't. This needed to be times correctly or everything would go horribly wrong.
"But, actually, I feel sorry for you" she shrugged.
"And whys that?"
"Because in about twenty minutes, and counting, I'm going to leave this God forsaken world and enter a blissful, eternal sleep where I cannot be harmed in any way. You, on the other hand are fated to walk this earth, alone, with no clue of a cure for your dastardly life, nobody will ever love you, I mean, the ones who created you only wanted your brawn." She explained, trying to appeal to the side of Lucien that still could be living, the more human side, she wanted to weaken him and then kill him. "I mean, it didn't take all of my strength to win you over to my side, it's what you crave, attention from someone. You don't want to admit it Lucien but you're just like the rest of us, you want to feel loved"
Lucien clenched his jaw, it was visible from the movement of his skin. He thought of Aurora, who was God knows where at this moment in time. But he saw past Cassie's manoeuvre. "At least I don't love a man that's locked me away for three hundred years and only now believes your worth something" he spat with venom now, angered by her words. "I am nothing like any of you, I cannot be tied down by burdens, I cannot be made weak"
"Well, it looks like you have everything then Lucien" she let go of the tree trunk and raised her arms a little as if to say he'd defeated her with his words "but in a hundred years time, when all of your enemies are vanquished, when you have conquered the world and all of its wonders, I ask of you, who will you share it with? Or will you be a ruthless leader who acts bitter but deep down everyone knows he truly is alone"
"I will be happy, as there is no one left to betray me" Lucien began to squirm under the pressure. Was she seeing through his lies? Why was he becoming so agitated with her?
"Dear, dead Lucien. Maybe I can help With your current predicament. Maybe it was I all along that could help you. Because Lucien, if you trust me, I promise I will not let this world see you alone" Cassandra stumbled forwards towards Lucien now, he seemed confused at her words. Was Cassandra actually volunteering to be with him? But she was dying, there was nothing that could be done.
"Fine, I'll indulge in your childish whims and ask you how you intend to do that?" He tried acting tough but he really wanted to know this answer.
And finally it clicked, Cassandra knew that this was the chance she was waiting for, to finally end this madness to save the people she loved and to finally put her spirit at rest.
"Through death" she fell forward, her hand digging its way into his chest, temporarily paralysing him as her hand grasped onto his heart.
She muttered words as she breathed in, shutting her eyes tightly as she could feel his magic fade from his body, it was the rush of power she needed. Lucien couldn't scream nor could he move to protect himself, it was now him that had been bettered, by a girl half dead.
"You're going to lead a very miserable life in eternal damnation my dear Lucien" Cassandra felt Lucien fall onto her, but the wave of energy she had allowed her to catch him and remain stood "say hi to your witches for me"
With those words, Cassie pulled his heart from his chest and sent him toppling to the floor without another sound. Lucien had finally been defeated. But the day was not over.
Cassie felt the surge of power rush to her head, the world outside fading to a dark purple and then to black as her body fell aside Lucien's.
