Chapter 5:
I regret my idea. I suggested that we should be dressed like Mockingjays. We're dressed in beautiful black and grayish white feathers, which keep tickling my nose. Madd's assistant, Marina, is guiding Rye and I like lost puppies to out chariot. I glanced at Rye. He was mumbling about my "stupid" idea. Hey, he could be grateful were gonna stand out, thanks to my mother's deceased stylist, Cinna, for mentoring my stylist, Madd. I sighed and decided to ignore my brother. I looked around at the other tributes: Spear of 2, Sirvantize of 10, Slayer of 0. District Zero is a new district, if you haven't noticed. President Sky insisted on creating it, especially to provide music, but it also produces other stuff like New machinery, which I could assume that Three already provides that. Even District Thirteen was put into the games, ever since my parents rebelled. The president says that they deserve punishment, too. I cocked my head at the three tributes with confusion. They were smiling at me. Rye noticed them too and rolled his eyes. He turned to me. "Ignore them, Jas. Their trying to fool you. Your probably first on their kill list." He growled. I tore my gaze from those tributes. I stared at my brother, trying to figure out what happened to the sweet brother who told me on the train that he was gonna die for me. I shrugged and pushed the thought away as a giggle escaped me. Rye looked like Buttercup, Auntie Prim's fuzz ball of a cat. I've seen pictures of that thing and surprisingly, that fat old cat is still alive. I guess my mother really loves Auntie Prim, so she kept him alive, or she would've made him one of our meals. "Ok," Madd's voice snapped me back to attention. "What do you think?" She held up a mirror. We looked stunning. We had feathers and wings, which was probably what my mother wore once... Rye and I surveyed each other. "It's alright." Rye shrugged. I rolled my eyes. "It's beautiful." I commented. Madd beamed, obviously ignoring Rye. "Well, your idea was lovely. Thanks to Cinna, since he created a Mockingjay dress for your mother, I managed to pull it off." I smiled and skimmed over the other tributes costumes. I loved Spear's. She was wearing a golden armored suit with a sword like belt and spear like helmet. Spear grinned at me again. I quickly flicked my glance away, suddenly suspicious. Marina and Effie walked over, standing beside Madd. "Show time!" Effie pipped in her cheery Capitol accent. Rye and I stood in our chariot, my eyes locked on the first chariot, District One. Rye reached over and held my hand as our chariot, with our black horses, jerked forward. I smiled slightly as I focused my gaze on the chariot ahead of us. I felt the hair standing on the back of my neck as we came through the passageway that brought us to the President' s mansion. All of a sudden, our feathers ignited with flames, suddenly becoming flaming Mockingjays. The Capitol people screamed our names. Rye gave them a flirty smile as he waved, while I continued to stare at a point off in my imagination as if I could care less about all of this, in which I don't care. Rye looked at me and his smile faltered. He elbowed me in the ribs, making me flinch and grit my teeth. "Smile and wave." He hissed as he straightened up and waved again. I growled as I attempted to stand straight. I put on a fake but convincing smile on and instead of waving, I blew a kiss, making people cheer. I just made myself as noticeable as my mother. Then a thought pondered me. If Katniss was called the Girl on fire and the Mockingjay, what will I be nicknamed, considering I'm Katniss's daughter? After a bit, all the chariots went in a circle, stopping in front of the President's mansion. "Welcome tributes!" Was it just me or were his eyes locked on us? "Good Luck to you all," he narrowed his eyes at me, making me shudder, "And may the odds be ever in your favor!" Because of my mother. He's keeping his eyes on me, incase I turn out as rebellious as the Mockingjay. The crowd went wild as our chariots jerked forward again, President Sky's glare still engraved in my mind. When our chariots got to the Training Center, our flames extinguished making me jump. Watching my mother's games, it kinda feels like I'm reliving it. Especially, since the tributes are, you know, "jealous" of our marvelous entrance. Effie, Madd, and Marina came "prancing" over. "Beautiful dears, beautiful!" Effie congratulated us. "Thanks." Rye replied naturally. She turned to me with her purple wig and her clown like face. "Oh Jasmine, you remind us all of your mother!" She lightly kisses my cheek, making me flinch. I looked at Rye with eyes that cried, "Help me!" Rye just chuckled, fueling my fire. "Um thanks, Effie." I tried to sound polite, in which it worked, because Effie grinned. Madd came over and gently hugged us. "You two were stunning! Just like my mentor, Cinna, I think I made you two unforgettable!" Yeah. Unforgettable. Jasmine, the girl who was unforgettable. I just nodded as Madd led us to our apartment in the Training Center. As I walked towards the elevator, I caught one of the tribute's, Sirvantize's, eyes. I shook my head, considering that I was surely his first target....
