PARK HYEMI

When I entered the classroom, I saw Minwoo sitting on my chair while talking to Sun Mi.

“Good morning Hyemi-ah!” Minwoo enthusiastically greeted.

“Good morning too!” I greeted back.

Good thing Minwoo was here to enlighten my morning because earlier I was squeezed inside the bus. I woke up late so when I rode that old shitting bus, ah, I totally pitied myself.

Minwoo motioned me to sit on my chair. Such a gentleman “Kamsamnida”

        “You’re welcome.”

“Minwoo oppa! You’re going too unfair, why are you doing that only to her?” Hyuna, whose face turned red, exclaimed as she walked in front of us.

Minwoo oppppppp? What the heck, I promised myself not to say ‘OP’ to anyone who was older than me because it sounded flirtatious…….ewwww!

“Class, go back to your seats now.” Mr Kim entered with the history book in his hand.        “Korean’s…….”

Blah, blah, blah,,like who cared about it? I didn’t like history ever since, aside from the fact that it was a boring subject; I also noticed that the ticking of the clock was a little slower every time the subject was this one.

My attention was shifted to the Jo twins who were intently listening to Mr Kim though Youngmin, who had a poker face, kept on yawning. They really looked the same except for their hair. I wished I can talk to them but I thought that would be too impossible. They were in the light while I was in the dark. My gaze took long until both of them caught me. I quickly diverted my gazed on the ceiling and pretended to think of something. I looked again, Kwangmin wasn’t looking anymore but Youngmin caught me twice so I fixed my position and looked at the teacher.

“Now that we’re finished discussing about Korean wars, I need you to have a further research about it. It will be by pair and I will be the one to choose your partners. Arasseo?”

        “Deh.” They answered in chorus.

Oh my,,I didn’t even listen, I just wished that my partner will be kind to tell what Mr Kim had discussed.

“Hyuna and Kwangmin, Sun Mi and Minwoo, Shinmin and Jinyoung, Minyoung and Jeongmin………..” Mr Kim kept on telling the names until it was my name being announced “ our last pair is Youngmin and Hyemi.”

“What!” I shouted. It can’t be! I don’t like to ask him, he was totally scary for me and I can’t do the research with him.

“Do you have any problem with the pairs Ms Hyemi?”

I looked at Youngmin who was just smirking on his seat.

        “Nothing”

“Over reacting queen!” Hyuna shouted from the back where she was sitting between Minwoo and Kwangmin.

        “Flirt” I murmured.

“What did you say?” she shouted again, it was like we were so far from each other.

I ignored her. The bell rang for break time and Sun Miwent to the comfort room first. I said that I’ll follow her but I was stopped when four girls blocked my way. They made a succeeding hand gestures before Hyuna showed herself from the back.

“Yah! Hyemi!” she pushed me hard that I almost fell down the floor. “Who are you in this school to just do those things to me, huh?!” she screamed that almost the whole campus heard it.

“I don’t know what you’re saying.” I pushed her on the side and tried my best to escape from her friends but they were too strong. They took my bag and made fun of it. They were tossing it to every student who’ll pass while I was running, trying to get my bag from them.

“Yah! Yah! That’s my bag!” I kept on running but I stopped when my bag was passed to Youngmin, who was holding a can of soda. He wasn’t able to catch it and the worst thing was his soda spilled all over his shirt.

“Hyung, your shirt got stained.” Kwangmin who was standing beside him said.

I wasn’t able to move at first but I was taken back to reality when someone from behind whispered to me. “Go tell him, you’re sorry.”

“Deh, deh.” I quickly ran to his side and wiped the stain on his shirt.

        “Stop it,..”

        “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry….”

“I said stop it!” he yelled madly.

I looked up at him and he was totally scary.

“You’re plain stupid to start that game using your bag!” He was absolutely angry.

        “Hyung, she’s a girl.”

Tears were threatened to come out of my eyes but I tried my best to suppress it. I bowed for a long time in front of him.

“Mianhe, I’ll just wash your shirt.” I offered.

“You’re impossible.” She pushed me and laughter echoed through the hallway.

“You heard him right? You’re impossible! Ha ha!” Hyuna kept on laughing and she wasn’t contented with what she did. She got the soda Youngmin left on the floor and pour it on my bare legs. “Serves you right!”

Bell rang as the end signal for break time and the start of another subject.

Students started to go back in their classrooms while I wasn’t able to move in my spot. The tears I tried to return inside my eyes flowed freely on my cheeks. I was still glued on my spot when I felt something covered my shoulders, I looked at the guy who did it and it was Kwangmin!

        “Come with me.”

I simply nodded and walked with him. It was better this way. I felt more secured knowing that someone was holding me. I missed my elder brother.

When we stop from walking, I looked at the place and we were in the track and field arena. It was quite windy but the topcoat he placed on my shoulders gave warmth.

“What about you watch me do the perfect high jump over that bar?”

I wasn’t answering. My mind was still confused with things. Like, why was Hyuna doing these things to me and why did Kwangmin suddenly bring me here? I was so confused!
