The Step-Trap, Part One: Vacation, All I (N)Ever Wanted

"I'm actually really excited about this. We haven't been on any sort of vacation or trip anything since before dad left. So, what made you decide to go on vacation now?" I asked my mom as I finished up packing my things for the upcoming trip.

"Um, well. Do you remember Joy?" My mom questioned and I nodded my head as I looked over at her before carrying my bags out the door to put them in the car.

"Yeah, I remember her. Are you two still going out?" I asked and she shrugged her shoulders slightly as she put her bags in the trunk.

"Sorta," She replied. "I mean, yes, but no. We're actually engaged now. So, this whole trip isn't just the two of us. Joy and her son Calum are joining us. This is like a.. pre-family vacation sort of thing. You know, to help us bond before the wedding and all. Calum is around your age, so I'm sure the two of you will get along very well."She said with a smile before getting in the car.

Oh hell no. I've met Calum once, and he was such a son of a bitch. I know for sure we would never ever get along. I just hope he and I don't have to share a room, and I hope he and his mom are riding in a separate car. I need as much time away from him as I can get before we become step-brothers and wind up living in the same house. I can only handle so much of Calum Hood.. Yuck.

"Oh. That's wonderful. I can't wait to meet this Caleb guy." I said, basically lying. For one, I know that his name isn't Caleb, and that it's Calum. Also, I've already met him once, my mom just doesn't know about it. "I'm sure he's great, and I'm sure I'll have lots of fun with him." Also a lie.

"Awesome. I'm glad you two are possibly going to get along well, because you two will be in the backseat together throughout the entire trip, and then you will be sharing a hotel room. And then of course the four of us will be living together after Joy and I get married." Mom said as I got in the car.

You.. have.. got.. to be kidding me. Didn't I just say how much I hoped we wouldn't be in the same car or the same hotel room. Geesh. This is going to be one hell of a vacation. This is definetly the vacation I've never wanted or dreamed of. It's like the vacation from hell.

"Awesome." Was all I could manage to say before putting my earbuds in my ears.

I was definetly going to need music so I could ignore Calum on the trip.

After a while, we had arrived at the future evil step-mother and even more evil step-brothers house, and we were then on the road for our trip to New York.

"Why are you being such an ass?" Calum muttered to me.

"Don't swear." I said and scooted more towards the window and turned slightly so I wouldn't be looking at the brat.

"Oh, whatever. I'm sure you do it all the time. Now, don't make me say it again. Why. Are. You. Being. Such an. Ass?" Calum said and jerked my arm slightly to make me turn to face him.

"Why am /I/ being an ass? Me? I'm not the one jerking peole's arms and interrupting people's music. Do you even realize when someone has both earbuds in, that means they're trying to block everything out and is not in the mood to talk? Geesh, kid. Learn some manners." I said and glared at him before turning back around.

"You /are/ being an ass. You've been ignoring me the whole time. Like, come on, asshole. Why are you freaking blocking me out? We're supposed to be step-brothers soon. Show a little respect. And FYI, I am not a kid. I'm like two years younger than you. Get a grip." He said and I scoffed.
