Chapter 6: One steeped in sin

"So while we were gone, Daphne risked her life to save another kingdom while you remained behind to safeguard ours. Along the way, Daphne encountered trouble and so you left leadership and command of our kingdom to Saladin in order to rescue her. In doing so, Solaria has also been liberated of those monsters and the king is now in deep gratitude for your deeds. Did I get all of that?" asked Oritel as he sat on the throne.

"I was the one that volunteered father, whatever happened is my responsibility" said Daphne.

"On the contrary Daphne, while I am cross that you and James did all of this behind my back. I am however.....proud of you both. Daphne, I admire your courage for heading in despite the dangers as well as your passion for your loved ones. The same can be said for you as well James and thanks to you...Solaria is saved" said Oritel.

"Well I can't take all the credit, like for example....I wouldn't have known that Daphne was in trouble if it weren't for that enforcer who took the time to deliver that message to me" said James.

"This enforcer, you said his name was Matt?" asked Oritel.

"That's right" said James.

"Guards, the records" said Oritel.

Soon a guard brought a huge book and Oritel was soon scanning through it.

"Found it, according to this...Matt had just recently graduated from the academy and he was immediately put in charge of guarding our hall of records. Says here that he was at the top of his class and that he was on the path of becoming a first rate general if given the time. But...there's something else..." said Oritel.

"What is it father?" asked James.

"It says that he was involved in an incident and that his graduation was in danger of being exempted. I'll look into it further, in the meantime you both should get some rest. With what Daphne went through and James going that far to save her....you both have earned it" said Oritel.

Nodding, James and Daphne went towards their respective rooms.

"For a moment, I thought we were going to be in trouble" said Daphne.

"With what we did, any parent would naturally worry about their children. Besides, Solaria is liberated and hopefully for a long time. Let's just do as father said for the time being and get some rest" said James.

As Daphne entered her room, James did the same.

"Matt huh? I wonder, did something happen?" wondered James.

Next day

As James walked down the hallway, he took the time to read some reports from the academy about its functions as well as those that have graduated.

Luckily James was looking in front of himself because he once again ran into Matt.

"We sure do keep running into each other" said James.

"Yes...it seems so my prince" said Matt.

"You refer to me as your prince, I take it that you were born and raised here?" asked James.

"Yes sir, I was. I grew up on the country side so I was pretty much the farm boy back then but it was fun, it also helps that nature was kind and the harvest was plentiful" said Matt.

"So what's a country guy doing in the army?" asked James.

"Well as I'm sure you're aware, ever since the war began...magix has needed additional help and firepower. Personally though, I joined because the monsters once came to my family's farm and I couldn't do anything. Then I saw the silhouette of our guardian fairy and thankfully she destroyed the monsters. But that revelation left me with new purpose, at that moment I decided that I never wanted to see the scared look on my family's face again and so I applied for the academy. It was hard, being a farm boy and all and I never went to any combat school or received any formal training before I arrived so it was hard" said Matt.
