A Voyage to the Past: The Awakening

And so I awake. When I open my eyes I find myself laying on the ground, far from where the ship had landed as I don't see it anywhere around me...Have I been moved?

Distant from where I lay I'm surrounded by a bunch of creatures, they look similar to what you would expect ancient hunter-gatherer civilizations to look like. It's become blatantly apparent to me that I had reached a point in time where our specie was still undergoing an early process of development.

A large chested, tall, barefoot unappealing man approaches me, he starts yelling vexatiously; possibly alarming the others that I'm awake, maybe? I don't know, but as soon as he does that a bunch more come outside their shelter and start to gather around me, and as they get closer they bow, two of them carried me by the arms to take me with them. They offered care and hospitality which I thought was surprisingly odd. They gave me immediate shelter kept me in comfort, and provided me with natural medication which soon ameliorated the pain on my chest.

Unfortunately, not being able to communicate with them, limited me to the things I could do. I was so anxious to find out how we as human began to develop, that I didn't even plan on how exactly I was going to interact with them for my own safety. I want to get back to the ship and leave this place, I'm too baffled and confused; so much so that I still find it hard to believe that any of this is real. I've been here for just a few minutes and it's already weird enough. Or at least that's how long I've been concious for. For all I know I've probably been here much longer...how long was I out for? I'm not really sure what to do or how to inform them of where I need to go, I'm not at all familiarized with their dialect.

I stood up from where I had been laying and walked out from their shelter. Looked around me and noticed that I was surrounded by even more of these species, all of which seemed to have been focused in their own world, and as soon as I walked by, they once again bowed at my presence. To illustrate what this looks like, imagine what humanity would be like under an anarchist political system, there's no recognition of any human authority, no one follows the orders of a man, everyone follows the same orders; nature's orders. Here it's every man for himself, no one really interacts or communicates as much with anyone else. I have to think of some way to communicate with them somehow if I intend on getting the hell out of here any time soon.

Night comes and I have no place to stay but out in the wild, alone in the dark, hiding from the others for some time until I'm ready to face them again. Why do they aggrandize me so much, why aren't they baffled by my presence, why didn't they think of me as a threat and attack? Creeping out behind the bushes while gazing up at the stars, there's this kid--ugly looking thing by the way--I approach him, he looks at me, then looks away ignoring me, as if I wasn't even there at all. I tried to imitate some of the things I had seen the residents of the small village do as means of communication. He looks at me, looks away then back to me, pointing his finger to himself, with a particular voice tone, as if to ask "Are you talking to me?" not knowing in which tone to respond I subconsciously answered with the universal way of saying yes; I nodded. Having nodded I realize that maybe these people's way of communicating is no different from ours when it comes to gestures and body languages. Given that we are nothing but an offspring of these same specie, some of the things we have in common with others back in our time, we may also seem to share with them here. They "freak out" whenever they feel threaten, they raise their eyebrows when curious or confused, they nod and shake their head to say yes or no, and use the same kinds of facial expressions to show joy, sadness, fear, unease, pleasure and discontent. A lot of the things we do, they do, and rightfully so; after all these are our ancestors. I figured it may be easiest to illustrate the Ultravoid rather than trying to explain what it is or what it looks like. The kid's got a handcrafted chisel with him, I point towards it and extend my hand, kindly asking if I could use it. And on a wall I illustrate the resemblance of the ship. I then hand the chisel back to him, he looks to me and raised an eyebrow, he seems to be confused by my request, he takes it back and draws something that looks like a tree right next to the ship. He then looks back at me and smiles then runs away. This was of no help. These people are too naive to be able to understand what I need.

A few hours pass and I start to feel tired, I lay on the cold hard ground, close my eyes and try to rationalize and make sense out of all of this. What is it about these species that makes them the way they are? While they are very undeveloped and ungoverned, they don't seem to pose any harm, not to each other nor to me. When encountering them initially I didn't think they'd treat me with such kindness and care, but who knows maybe this is just our natural way of being, maybe we've always been a specie of love and mutual care, maybe, back when there were less of us and it was easier to communicate ideas, we lived amongst each other in tranquility without minding anyone else, yet at the same time caring so much for one another. But something seemed to have happened that changed the course of humanity, and I can't help but think that I may be the cause of such alteration.
