Part One
"Father, why can I not fight on the battlefield with you?" I bunch my dress at my stomach, growing impatient with my father's queries as he grew with mine. My tongue ran over my chapped lips as I tap my right foot against the hardwood floor. My tapping foot left a printing in my head of the many times he's denied me my true passage of fighting.
"Why would I allow you to fight alongside me knowing the perils of battle?" He continues to read the letters on his desk, not once glimpsing in my direction. The ink splashes on the ivory paper in mockery of me. The two soldiers standing by him are almost snickering but cover it up with a cough. My father looks at them with annoyance, dismissing their imbecilic behavior with a flick of his eyes.
"Father, I am trained to fight and that is what I would wish to do. I want to be out on the battlefield fighting for the kingdom, not sitting in the castle like a damsel in distress."
The remnant of tobacco floats through the room from the puffs of smoke from my father's pipe. I breathe in too deep and felt its tar line my throat. A burning sensation hit the back of my mouth, making me cough slightly. He places his nip into the ink and stares at me, removing his thick spectacles.
"Victoria, I will not allow my own flesh and blood to be put in the face of danger. You were trained for emergencies only. I intend to keep it that way. These two soldiers do not even take you serious how do you expect the enemy too?"
The flames of the fireplace dance around my father. His folded wrinkly hands and gray filled hair showed the stress a king has. I was afraid that my pestering him would not relieve it any. "You are our eldest heir. You will not be placed in such a treacherous place. Understood?"
"But Father, I do not understand why I can not. I train and train, do you not want me to be a strong Alpha Female?"
"Victoria, you mustn't understand these things now! I do things because of the I -"
King! They have arrived, we are under siege. In the middle field, please come quickly, Sire. The mind link interrupts Father. It was filled with moans and violent screams of war. The wafting smell of their sweet necessity drains from my soldier's lifelines. My hands grip my dress tighter in anticipation which raffled my fixed composure. The tar smoke dissipates from the fog-filled air as quickly as it came.
Who dares to attack us? My father bellows out, sending a shiver up my back in fear. He slams his fist on his caramel work surface, causing the two soldiers to flinch. Their eyes remain on the golden entry door, refusing to see their King in such a state.
It is King Henry Sire. My father screeches out creating an awful sound. I keep my eyes focused on the caramel work surface that is in rubbles on the hardwood floor. His wolf threatens to make an appearance to protect its pack, its family, its kingdom, fully intending on causing pain to any who dare to block him.
"Victoria, stay. Do not leave until I come back," He orders jumping up from his escritoire. I follow quickly behind him, as the two soldiers morph into the wolves and jumped out the window. Before my Father can leave, I reach out, barely touching him with the tips of my fingers. "Victoria I will not have a senseless dispute with you. Stay and find your mother." He spits causing me to flinch at his harsh tone.
"Father I can help. Please." He feels miles away although he is only a few feet. A guttural growl claims his voice as he claws at his shirt and runs towards the door, leaving my statement lingering in the smoke-filled air. I watch in awe as he morphs into a tremendous taupe brown wolf destroying the threshold of the doors. The grand wooden doors crumble down as he gallops past them down the hall. My heart silently breaks as he turns away without thinking I might be of help.
