All people have occurrences in their life, in which it brings those people to the point of suicide. Dieu's childhood was like that. He remembers when he was 5, October 7th, 1706.
That was the day he had found out his fathere had died. He even remembers where he was at the time. Dieu was with his mother, at the fisherman's market, just casually studying the different species of fish being sold. In the distance, Dieu could see two ships in the ocean, one medium sized French ship, and one large sized English ship, firing cannons at each other.
What England wanted, was never known, but the English ship had managed to ram into the French ship, its sharp edged blockade slicing into the build of the ship. As the English ship had fired cannon shots into the hull of the sinking French ship, Dieu's mother had quickly rushed Dieu inside.
Peeking through a hole in the wooden wall of the fisherman's hut, he noticed that English ships and French ships were fighting out in the ocean, the different French forts placed on separate island pieces assisting, using mortars. His mother called for him, as a French union soldier had needed them both.
With tears in the soldiers eyes, he explained that his father was on the French ship attacked by the English Rampart.(The large English ship) Not knowing what the soldier meant, Dieu asked
"So? My father was an expert swimmer. He should be able to swim to shore, right?"
The soldier Dieu's mother looked at each other. "The problem is..." Dieu's mother had started staying, tears dripping down her face. "... when the... the...-"
"Your father had been caught between the ram, and a crate... crushing him."
The soldier had quickly interrupted. Dieu's mother had ran off after that, telling Dieu that she was 'only going to buy some fish.' But after that, Dieu could not find his mother.
He returned home with no luck of finding his mother. After silence had inflicted this usually community interested family, Fue Froid, one of the French soldiers visiting his family, had decided to check on Dieu, only to find him alone, skinny, sick with influenza. Fue had taken Dieu into his own hands, feeding him, and using a lot of his own money to treat Dieu of his sickness. They lived a good life together.
But when Dieu was 7, at home with his step-brother, Fue's commander had came in, stating that Fue was in a battle for Fort Le Eau, and had suffered death from a shot wound in his lower hip. Dieu was devastated, and had to return to the orphanage.
While at the orphanage, Dieu made some bad, but also good, friends. These kids were by the name of Crystal, Celerite, and Deces. Crystal had been put in the orphanage, as her home had caught into flames, and Crystal used this chance to murder her abusive parents. A fraction of people know it was her, but most of Blood Island's residents fought that she was not the cause of her parent's death, but that the house's flames were.
Celerite's parents were both in the French military, a bodyguard being payed to watch her. But, after the battle for Fort Le Eau, her parents had died as well during the battle.
Deces has an interesting... story. He claims his parents were fair. He claims his parents never abused. But, he did claim his parents were both Pagans, and his name means 'death' in French. When Deces was 7, his parents were found limbless on the shores of Devils Rock, there bodies having a Pentagram carved into their torso. Deces was never a Pagan, but he wishes he was, to know the reason of his parents death.
Dieu at this time was 8, Crystal was 7, Deces was 10, and Celerite was 9. Now, when you read 'bad friends', the statement simply means that Dieu's friends were the Robin Hoods of Blood Island. At night, they went around, stealing Drachmas from the rich people homes, and giving them secretly to the poor people. After Dieu had become one of the orphans, Crystal and him became friends. After Crystal had taken a liking to Dieu, she introduced him to Celerite and Deces.
Deces had instantly made friends with Dieu, but Celerite did not trust him. For that fact that, Dieu had not looked at all French. Dieu was pale, not at all with olive skin. His hair was blonde, not black. His eyes were a light blue colour, not the colour of Blood Island's inhabitants- a sea green. Celerite was the typical French girl. Deces, was Irish. You could instantly see it. Though, Blood Island does sometimes get a mixture of immigrants, the Irish were known to avoid this area of the ocean.
"You look German, dude. Not French." Celerite said when they first met. Crystal, being a purebred French woman, was impressed herself. The residents of Blood Island had known Germany as 'Germaniun', for Germany was at one point in a complete war with Blood Island. As so, it was surprising to Crystal that Dieu survived, in such a stereotype community. Anyway, Deces, Crystal, Celerite, and Dieu got along. It wasn't until Dieu was 10, that they finally introduced him to the Groupe Et Voleur.
