Faxon pulled the the last of the almost torn apart cardboard box that somehow held all his items together out of the trunk of his car and placed it in front of his feet. He held his hand over his face to protect his eyes from the sun above his new house on 939 Berro Drive.
Not much of a college house, he thought, I love it. He thought he should be privileged to get the chance to move into this. He was surprised the house was still for sale. This house was mind blowing. A Gothic, Los Angeles Victorian. In his head, he nicknamed it 'Dream House', because really, it was. He had always dreamed of living in a house like this, maybe not in LA since that kinda wasn't his scene, but a house just like this.
One of the students living here was desperate to move out and was looking for someone to swap student accommodation with, so he got Faxon's dorm, and he and his friends got to share the coolest house in LA. As soon as Faxon hit send on his email of unneeded enthusiastic praise for the house, he instantly received a reply.
"This house has got a bad vibe to it.." Rachel came up behind him, with one of her smaller boxes of stuff between her hand and her hip. Faxon gave her a cold look. "Pretty though" She reasoned before leading up to the doorway. Before she walked, she muttered something under her breathe, and even though Faxon couldn't hear her, it still made him roll his eyes.
He followed her to the door, leaving his boxes by the lawn. He had the key, so he stepped in front of Rachel and unlocked the door. He moved out of the way and let Rachel enter before him, "After you."
Rachel groaned softly before taking a step foot beyond the threshold. he didn't mention it, but Faxon saw her shiver as soon as her shoe touched the wooden flooring of the Dream House. He Faxon put his arm on her shoulder, entering himself.
It looked exactly how it did in the pictures he saw online. He had expected all the furniture to be moved about and the walls painted a different colour, maybe even a knew rug through the hallway, but no, this was the house he had fallen in love with. "Do you love it as much as I do?" He half turned to Rachel with an enthusiastic grin, "Do you?"
Rachel whispered something that Faxon couldn't hear. He sighed, annoyed then nudged her arm, "What's happened, Ray? Before you went off to North Carolina to see your family, you were excited to move in with me. Now.." He trailed off.
Rachel gave him an apologetic weak smile, "I'm sorry.. it's just.. well, don't you wanna move into the dorms? Get the real college experience?" She tried to reason, maybe get her fake point across, but it wasn't working.
Faxon sucked on the inside of his cheek, avoiding eye contact. Why was she being like this? She knew how much he wanted to live here, how he saw it as his dream house. He thought it was her dream too. It just didn't make sense.
Rachel folded her arms then rolled her eyes, shaking her head. Faxon examined her face, staring her down until her lips curved into a surrendering grin. "Fine! One night, then we'll talk about this tomorrow. It's not too late to change our mind about going back to th-"
He picked her up then spun her around, giggling hyperly, kissing her cheek many times, "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" He cheered.
"One night enough time to have an awesome party?" Rachel arched a thin dark eyebrow at him. He really didn't want people entering his new home or wrecking it in anyway. But maybe having a party would persuade Rachel to stay, "Really, we've been here literally two minutes and you're already thinking of arranging a party? We don't even know anyone here to invite."
"Watch'n learn my friend, watch'n learn" A devilish grin was wiped across Rachel's face.
